DePco Mechanical LLC is seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join our team. We specialize in Plumbing and HVAC for large-scale residential and multifamily construction projects throughout Connecticut and Maine.

The primary responsibility of this position is to prepare complete and competitive Plumbing and HVAC bids for general contractors , from initial review of bid documents through final proposal submission. This includes reviewing plans and specifications, performing detailed takeoffs, developing labor and material costs, obtaining vendor and subcontractor pricing, and preparing complete bid proposals.

The Mechanical Estimator will also assist with purchasing and vendor coordination after projects are awarded, helping ensure that the materials and equipment carried in the estimate are properly transitioned into the project.

Responsibilities

• Prepare complete Plumbing and HVAC estimates and bids for general contractors
• Review invitations to bid and determine project scope and estimating requirements
• Review construction drawings, specifications, addenda, bid forms, schedules, and other bid documents
• Perform detailed material and equipment takeoffs
• Develop labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and other project costs
• Solicit pricing from vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors
• Review and compare quotations for pricing, scope, availability, lead times, and compliance with project requirements
• Identify scope gaps, exclusions, clarifications, alternates, allowances, and potential cost impacts
• Prepare complete bid proposals, including scope of work, pricing, alternates, exclusions, and clarifications
• Track bid deadlines, addenda, RFIs, and other preconstruction requirements
• Work with management to review estimates and finalize pricing prior to bid submission
• Submit bids and supporting documentation to general contractors as required
• Respond to post-bid questions, scope reviews, revisions, and pricing requests
• Prepare pricing for bid revisions and value-engineering options when requested
• Maintain organized estimating files, takeoffs, vendor quotations, bid documents, and pricing history
• Assist with the transition of awarded projects from estimating to project management
• Assist with purchasing materials and equipment for awarded projects
• Prepare and issue purchase orders as needed
• Coordinate with vendors regarding pricing, availability, lead times, and material requirements
• Work closely with project managers and field personnel to ensure estimated scope and material requirements are properly carried into the project

Qualifications

• Previous mechanical construction estimating experience is required
• Strong experience with Plumbing and/or HVAC estimating
• Experience preparing and submitting construction bids to general contractors
• Experience with large-scale residential, multifamily, apartment, condominium, affordable housing, mixed-use, senior living, or similar construction projects preferred
• Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, addenda, and bid documents
• Experience performing detailed material and equipment takeoffs
• Ability to develop labor and material costs and prepare complete project estimates
• Experience obtaining and comparing vendor and subcontractor pricing
• Understanding of construction bidding, scope review, exclusions, alternates, and proposal preparation
• Purchasing, procurement, and purchase-order experience is preferred
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects throughout the estimating and bidding process
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and estimating software
• Experience with QuickBooks and Procore is a plus
• Construction-related degree or certification is a plus but not required
