Education, Certification and Experience High school diploma, GED, or Maryland high school certificate of attendance ServSafe Certification preferred Special Requirements None Knowledge, Abilities and Skills Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) Knowledge of food services and kitchen sanitation procedures Computerized point of sale and/or cash handling experience Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with a variety of age groups (Pre‑K through Grade 12) Alternatives to the above qualifications that are acceptable to Calvert County Public Schools Demonstrated success in accomplishing tasks akin to those responsibilities listed below Essential Job Functions, Responsibilities and Duties Prepare and serve food using proper portions in accordance with district, state, and USDA regulations Work rapidly and efficiently in performing tasks Work effectively with school personnel and students Operate and clean all kitchen equipment in the cafeteria Apply and maintain high standards of sanitation and personal hygiene Accept money and operate a point-of-sale computer system during serving time Store food and supplies according to instructions and assist in inventory Ensure all activities conform to district guidelines Maintain food safety in compliance with local health department regulations Fill in for Cafeteria Manager/Assistant Manager if needed Attend staff development training Assist in all areas of the school food service program as directed Think, concentrate, and interact positively with others Come to work regularly and promptly Work under stress and meet all deadlines Other Job Functions, Responsibilities and Duties Perform related work as required or assigned by the principal, supervisor of Child Nutrition, cafeteria manager, or designee. Physical and Psychological Conditions/Demands Exert moderate physical effort, including independent lifting and carrying of food items and objects up to 50 pounds. Frequent reaching and bending. Stand and walk on hard flooring for long periods. Operate commercial food service equipment. Work around a wide range of temperatures commonly found in a commercial kitchen environment. Work with commercial chemical cleaning agents. Unusual Demands May be subject to a flexible work schedule.
