Background

The School District of North Fond du Lac is located five miles north of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin in Fond du Lac County. We serve over 1,550 pre-kindergarten through 12th-grade students, providing well-designed lessons by removing barriers and providing meaningful feedback to help build success within all student learners.

We are seeking a motivated, passionate, innovative, and engaging leader who will meet the needs of all students by effectively collaborating with the staff and partnering with our families. Our new Dean of Students will be passionate and committed to their students' sense of belonging and well-being, and they will include student voice into our school culture while exhibiting strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

General Description of Position Assignment

The Dean of Students at Bessie Allen Middle School serves as a cornerstone for student support and school culture. This role is heavily focused on optimizing the middle school environment by proactively managing attendance interventions, administering behavior support rooted in a restorative practices philosophy, and driving school-wide community standards in close partnership with the building administration.

Qualifications and Responsibilities

Attendance Monitoring & Truancy Intervention

• Stand up and own it by managing daily attendance workflows for ... students, collaborating actively with the attendance secretary on required phone calls and family outreach.
• Routinely review and identify data trends for students accumulating 10+ absences.
• Direct the formal parent notification process regarding truancy issues in accordance with district policies.
• Facilitate both "Simple" and "Habitual" truancy meetings with families, working alongside the Principal and School Resource Officer (SRO) to resolve attendance barriers.
• Maintain and update the real-time shared tracking document (shared with secretaries, SRO, and Principal) detailing warnings, citations, and meetings held for habitual truancy.
• Coordinate and conduct supportive home visits for students who are experiencing chronic non-attendance.

Student Behavior, Culture & Restorative Practices

• Provide immediate, constructive support for students who have been removed from the classroom environment.
• Utilize nextpath data systems regularly to identify underlying behavioral patterns, track school climate trends, or flag systemic discipline concerns.
• Partner with and support instructional staff in navigating student discipline issues effectively.
• Foster a positive school climate by supporting students using the guidelines and professional standards outlined in our district Cultural Playbook .
• Implement a restorative practices philosophy to resolve conflicts, repair harm, and guide students to take meaningful ownership of their choices.
• Coordinate and administer student surveys for SEL (Social-Emotional Learning) to actively gauge student well-being, capture student voice, and proactively guide targeted interventions.
• Embody the belief that we are one by maintaining consistent communication and partnering actively with parents, guardians, and the SRO regarding student growth and safety.
• Actively participate in Student Support Team (SST) meetings to share critical information, align interventions, and advocate for student welfare.

Administrative Leadership & Principal Collaboration

• Serve as the Principal's key leadership partner ("right-hand person") to closely communicate and collaborate on daily building operations, student culture, and school safety.
• Maintain continuous communication and close collaboration with the Building Principal to ensure absolute alignment on all school climate and student wellness goals.
• Demonstrate the courage to grow by championing building-wide Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) initiatives, translating student survey data into proactive leadership strategies that support student belonging.
• Demonstrate strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills across all student, staff, and family interactions.
• Maintain professional flexibility and execute other leadership duties as assigned by the administration to promote overall building success.

Credentials & Certifications

• Years of Experience Required: 0
• Years of Experience Preferred: 3+ years of successful experience in teaching, school counseling, or behavioral intervention.
• Degree Required: Bachelor's Degree (Master's Degree in Educational Leadership or related field preferred).

Required Certifications

Candidates must hold or be eligible to hold a valid Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) license. Highly preferred certifications include:

• 5051 - Principal License or
• Demonstrated eligibility/enrollment in an approved pathway program toward an administrative license, backed by an established middle-level educator footprint (e.g., 1777 Regular Education or 1088 Elementary/Middle Level Education).
