ACADEMIC ADVISOR Position Number: 8100820 Work Modality: Fully In-Person Job Type: Full-Time FLSA Status: Exempt Campus: Rogers Park‑Lake Shore Campus Department: COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES Location Code: COLLEGE OF A&S‑ADVISING (02100F) Duties and Responsibilities Care for students through individual academic advising sessions, imparting knowledge of degree requirements and opportunities to achieve academic, career, and life goals. Assist, challenge, and support students in identifying and clarifying academic, career, and life goals and offer appropriate motivation and encouragement. Be a proactive and constructive player within an advising team dedicated to student success. Accurately and efficiently communicate transfer credit and remaining degree requirements (core, school, and major requirements) for timely graduation using online and offline resources. Understand, convey, and implement academic policies, procedures, and protocols to students, parents, faculty, and other stakeholders, while upholding FERPA requirements and the highest ethical standards. Assist students in resolving administrative issues related to their academic records and assist with registration issues. Maintain and update student records, such as meeting notes, degree progress documentation, correspondence, and other records when appropriate. Identify, monitor, and provide guidance to students on academic probation. Make probation and dismissal recommendations. Refer students directly to appropriate campus and off‑campus resources to support academic success. Assist with initiatives at departmental and inter‑departmental levels that support persistence through graduation. Present academic workshops on topics such as goal setting, transfer student transition, networking and interviewing skills, and graduate school preparation. Serve as liaison to selected academic departments and schools as assigned; work with department chairs, program directors, and administrative staff to ensure accurate and consistent communication of program requirements. Assist with the planning and implementation of advising programs and outreach, including orientation, academic probation advising, and early academic alerts. Participate in the training and mentoring of new professional staff, as necessary. Articulate and support the vision and mission of the university. Develop and demonstrate expertise in academic knowledge regarding program offerings and requirements. Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to a fast‑paced, changing environment where responsibilities and duties may frequently change. Some weekend and evening hours are required. Minimum Education and/or Work Experience Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Counseling, or a related field required; one to two years of related experience. Demonstrated ability to work constructively in teams and independently. Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment. Commitment to academic excellence, social justice, and service, values‑based leadership, global awareness, and diversity. Ability to embrace, promote, and articulate the University’s Jesuit Catholic identity. Ability to work effectively with undergraduate students in a holistic manner with enthusiasm for providing student‑centered services in the Ignatian tradition. Certificates/Credentials/Licenses Master’s degree required; 2 years experience in higher education. Computer Skills Proficiency with MS Office Suite, Internet, and email applications.
