Role Overview:

The BIM Technician Level 2 is an experienced modeler and coordinator who operates with increasing independence across the full project lifecycle. At this level, you are expected to own significant portions of the BIM workflow — managing model coordination, producing complete drawing sets, and beginning to guide junior staff. You bring working knowledge of structural systems and can anticipate engineering intent, not just execute instructions.

Key Responsibilities:

Model Development & Documentation

• Develop and manage complex 3D structural models across multiple active projects simultaneously.
• Produce complete, construction-ready drawing packages — plans, sections, details, schedules, and general notes — with minimal redline cycles.
• Apply a deep understanding of structural systems (steel, concrete, masonry, wood framing) to model elements accurately and in context.
• Identify and flag design gaps, conflicts, or documentation inconsistencies proactively before they reach review.
• Maintain and enforce model health: work set structure, view templates, phase management, and linked file coordination.

Project Coordination

• Lead inter-disciplinary coordination efforts using Navisworks, identifying and resolving clashes with architectural, MEP, and civil teams.
• Serve as the primary BIM point of contact on assigned projects, coordinating directly with engineers, architects, and specialty consultants.
• Facilitate coordination meetings and document resolution of open items, RFIs, and model conflicts.
• Manage federated model assembly and ensure timely delivery of coordination exports (NWC, IFC, PDF).

Quality Assurance & Control

• Perform thorough QC reviews of models and drawing sets.
• Enforce compliance with company BIM standards, project BEPs, and client-specific requirements.
• Develop and maintain project-specific drawing templates, title blocks, and sheet sets.

Mentorship & Team Support

• Provide day-to-day guidance and technical support to BIM Designer Level 1 staff.
• Assist the BIM Lead in onboarding new team members to project workflows and software environments.

BIM Standards & Process Improvement

• Identify workflow inefficiencies and propose actionable solutions; assist in piloting and documenting new processes.
• Participate in software evaluations and provide informed feedback on tools, plugins, and automation opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education & Experience

• Associate's degree, technical diploma, or bachelor's degree in BIM/CAD Technology, Architectural Engineering Technology, Architecture, or a related field.
• 3-5 years of BIM production experience in a structural, MEP, or AEC consulting environment.

Technical Skills

• Advanced proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD; demonstrated ability to manage complex, federated models.
• Working proficiency in Navisworks for coordination and clash detection.
• Experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) / BIM 360 for model management and document control.
• Solid understanding of structural systems, load paths, and construction sequencing as they relate to documentation.
• Ability to independently interpret and execute on structural drawings, specifications, calculations, and engineer markups.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Dynamo for parametric modeling or workflow automation.
• Familiarity with structural analysis software outputs (RISA, RAM, ETABS) and how they inform documentation.
• Experience authoring or contributing to BIM Execution Plans (BEPs).
• Exposure to AISC, ACI, or NDS detailing standards.
• Autodesk Certified Professional (ACP) in Revit or equivalent certification.
