Overview The Lead Medical Assistant coordinates and organizes an efficient clinic workflow for in-person and telemedicine visits across primary care practice. This role monitors scheduling, addresses issues or complaints during clinic hours, and leads orientation, onboarding, and competency monitoring for Medical Assistant staff. The Lead MA ensures adherence to hospital policies, procedures, and operational workflows, manages clinic supply ordering, and supports both in-person and telemedicine intakes as defined by procedures. The position also records patient vital signs/medication lists, monitors patient flow, assists physicians with minor clinical procedures, prepares patient charts, and may assist with prior authorizations and prescription refill management. The role may monitor lab/imaging and coordinate diagnostic tests ordered by physicians. Maintains patient privacy and safety, and ensures compliance with infection control policies. Other duties as assigned. The Lead Medical Assistant provides leadership across the Medical Assistant staff and acts as a mentor to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and workflows. Essential Duties Actively coordinates and organizes an efficient clinic workflow for in-person and telemedicine visits across the Primary Care practice. Monitors and resolves scheduling issues or complaints during clinic hours. Monitors patient lab/imaging and may assist with prior authorizations for ambulatory prescriptions and prescription refill management. Performs various office and clerical duties. Ensures patient privacy, safety, and confidentiality; maintains a safe environment and compliance with infection control policies. Responsible for clinic supply ordering under the supervision of the Clinic Supervisor. Assists physicians with minor clinical procedures including staple removal, suture removal, and wound care. Acts as a lead and mentor to Medical Assistant staff, ensuring adherence to hospital policies, procedures, and workflows. Responsible for the orientation, precepting/onboarding of new staff and monitoring staff competencies. Ensures that policies, procedures, and operational workflows are followed. Performs in-person or telemedicine intake as defined by policy and procedure, recording vital signs and medications as required. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Specialized/technical training; graduate from an accredited school of Medical Assistant Certificate/Diploma program Two years of experience as a medical assistant, preferably with at least one year in an ambulatory care setting Ability to communicate effectively in English (verbal and written) Knowledge of ICD-9 coding, data collection for billing procedures and charge posting Ability to work well with a multidisciplinary team Ability to problem-solve and be self-motivated Ability to multi-task, manage priorities and workflow Preferred Qualifications Spanish language skills Knowledge of medical terminology Required Licenses/Certifications Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association Fire Life Safety Training (Los Angeles City).
