City of Huntington Beach, CA
Huntington Beach Police Cadet ProgramThis is a continuous recruitment. We will continue to accept applications until the hiring department determines enough qualified applications have been received. However, we will begin the testing process when a sufficient number of applications have been received and will continue periodic testing after that and per the needs of the Department. Here in Huntington Beach, we believe passionately that the key to becoming the best beach City in the world starts and ends with finding the right people to join our team. At this time, we have outstanding opportunities available, as we're looking for the "right people" to serve as Police Cadet with the Police Department. The Huntington Beach Police Department Cadet program introduces young men and women, ages 18 to 25, to the field of law enforcement. This is a part-time job in which the cadet must be enrolled as a full-time student in high school or college at the time of appointment. Work hours are assigned around the student's class schedule. The Cadet program is designed to develop the skills and abilities of young individuals who wish to one day pursue a career in law enforcement. Cadets are provided with the opportunity to work a variety of assignments throughout the Police Department, including, but not limited to, the Front Desk, Sub-stations, Training Unit and Communications. Successful candidates, after one-year of employment, are encouraged to apply for the testing process to potential appointment to Police Recruit. Police Recruits are full-time, regular status employees (salary plus benefits package) and attend a local Police Academy. This is Part Time, Non Permanent position. Part-time employment does not qualify to receive City benefits, except those required by law. The City does not belong to the Social Security system; however, enrollment in an alternative retirement program is mandatory which requires an employee contribution of 7½% of base earnings to the Public Agency Retirement System (PARS). There are no rights to employment and employment may end with or without cause or advance notice. Please Note: Our primary means of communication with applicants is sent via email; therefore, please include a valid email address on your application.Examples of Essential DutiesCadets are provided with the opportunity to work a variety of assignments throughout the Police Department, including, but not limited to, the Front Desk, Jail, Sub-stations, Training Unit and Communications.
