Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

\n

The Staff Physician works as part of the medical provider team providing medical services to the patients of the health center.  In addition, Staff  Physicians, unless specifically exempted by the Chief Medical Officer, shall be qualified to serve on the active Medical Staff of a local hospital, provide inpatient care services, assume "on call" after hours responsibilities and supervise health center PA's or NP's as appropriate.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

\n
1. Provides primary medical care by caring for all patients in accordance with the physician's medical specialty.
\n

\n

 

\n

\n
1. Develops a plan of care for each patient, including: complete medical history, physician examination, diagnosis, appropriate treatment and/or referral, including hospitalization where necessary.
\n

\n

 

\n

\n
1. Stresses the importance of preventive health care measures.
\n

\n

 

\n

\n
1. Uses all available resources in diagnosis and treatment, such as laboratory and radiological testing, in an appropriate and cost efficient manner.
\n

\n

 

\n

\n
1. Confers with consulting physicians, nurse, patients, and patients’ families concerning treatment and care of patients.
\n

\n

 

\n

\n
1. Refers those cases which require specialist services, but maintains responsibility, assuring that continuity of care is provided.
\n

\n

 

\n

\n
1. Participates in the development and implementation of a regularly up-dated quality assurance plan for the consortium.
\n

\n

 

\n

\n
1. Participates in the Health Promotion/Disease Prevention activities required by the U. S. Public Health Service.
\n

\n

 

\n

\n
1. Attends all medical staff meetings and participates in the health center's Q/A program.
\n

\n

 

\n

\n
1. Performs other necessary duties as required by the health center to meet the goals of providing primary health care.
\n

\n

 

\n

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

\n

 

\n

The Staff Physician reports to, is supervised by and evaluated by the Chief Medical Officer.  The Staff Physician may be asked to serve as Physician in Charge at a particular clinic site and as such will supervise the medical team at that site.  The Staff Physician may also be asked to supervise a PA or NP.

\n

EVALUATION:

\n

 

\n

The evaluation of work performance will be ongoing, and will be carried out by the Chief Medical Officer.  It will include the specific duties and responsibilities of this position description plus employee attitude and general working behavior.  Formal evaluation will normally be performed annually, but may be initiated at other times by the Staff Physician or the Chief Medical Officer.

QUALIFICATIONS:

\n

 

\n

\n
1. Education/Training:   Medical Doctorate Degree from an accredited US institution and appropriate licensure required. Successful Completion of Family Medicine Residency Training Program.
\n

\n

 

\n

\n
• Certification:  Board Certified/Board Eligible Experience: Preferred but not mandatory.
\n
• Ability and willingness to serve on the active medical staff of a hospital used by HCPSC    
\n

\n

 

\n

\n
1. License to practice medicine in the State of Alabama.
\n

\n

 

\n

\n
1. The ability to relate with warmth and effectiveness to the patients and other health care providers of the health center.
\n

\n

 

\n

\n
1. Must be qualified in Basic Life Support techniques.
\n

\n

 

\n

\n
1. Ability and willingness to serve on the active medical staff of a hospital used by the health center if required.
\n
