Supervisory Facility Operations Specialist

Summary This position is located in Mammoth Cave National Park, in the Facility Management Division. Open until 06/21/2026. Major Duties As a Supervisory Facility Operations Specialist, duties include providing professional and technical advice and guidance to the Facility Manager on managing and supervising park personnel engaged in repair and rehabilitation, cyclic maintenance, routine, and maintenance projects. Project management includes maintaining and/or repairing buildings and structures, campgrounds, primary and secondary roads, front and backcountry pedestrian trails, bridges, culverts, storm drains, recreation areas and park ferry boat. Plans, directs, manages, and evaluates the maintenance, repair, rehabilitation, and operations of all physical facilities, grounds, and utilities at Mammoth Cave National Park. Responsible for supervising and directing the work of maintenance supervisors, and approximately 20 employees, and for reviewing their work for conformity to the goals and objectives and procedures established for the Facility Management Division at Mammoth Cave National Park. Education No substitution of education for experience at the grade level(s) of this announcement. Requirements U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Must meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males. Must participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. Must meet time‑in‑grade requirements for any prior General Schedule position or Federal employee if applicable. Must have a valid driver’s license and submit a Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and Driving Record. Must be able to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle, and potentially a four‑wheel drive vehicle. Must wear a uniform and comply with National Park Service uniform standards; a uniform allowance will be provided. New employees or supervisors may be required to complete a one‑year probationary period. May be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. Position is subject to a financial disclosure reporting requirement and must complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report within 30 days of appointment. Employee must be able to enter cave environments, which may include tight spaces, variant temperatures, radon exposures, and cave animals including bats. Evaluation Criteria Applicants will be evaluated on compliance, facility operations, financial management, leadership, and project management competencies. Other Information Relocation incentive may be authorized for a Federal employee who must relocate at least 50 miles from current location due to NPS needs. Physical demands: work is mostly sedentary in an office setting; walking, hiking, climbing, bending, and moderate lifting may be required.
