Medical Laboratory Scientist II - Microbiology, Part Time Job Summary: Medical Laboratory Scientist II – Microbiology – Day Shift – 24 hours. The Medical Laboratory Scientist II may perform waived and non‑waived testing under general supervision. Duties include following procedures for specimen handling, test analyses, reporting and ensuring accurate results and records. The role requires professional knowledge to read and interpret test results used by providers in diagnosis and treatment of diseases. The Scientist II may also serve as a General Supervisor, supervising laboratory operations, quality control, training, competency assessment, and inventory management under the Laboratory Manager and Clinical Supervisors. No patient care is required. Essential Functions After orientation, training and competency assessment: Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analyses, reporting and record‑keeping. Maintain records proving proficiency testing samples are treated like patient samples. Adhere to quality control policies; document all QC activities, calibrations, and maintenance. Follow corrective action policies when test systems are outside acceptable performance limits. Identify problems that may affect test performance or reporting; correct or notify appropriate supervisors. Document corrective actions taken for system deviations. Education Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or Laboratory Sciences required. Additional certificate or diploma in Clinical Laboratory Sciences acceptable. Licenses and Credentials Medical Technologist (ASCP) – MLT, MT, MLA, Histologists – American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP‑BOC) required. Experience 1–2 years of laboratory experience required. Experience cannot be accepted in lieu of a degree. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Understanding of laboratory equipment operation, maintenance, repair and analytic techniques. Ability to work independently, evaluate situations and act appropriately. Excellent multitasking and attention to detail in a fast‑paced environment. Strong interpersonal skills and professional communication with physicians, hospital staff and patients. Basic knowledge of federal, state and accreditation requirements. Capacity to perform as a team member.
