Overview Break Time Store Managers oversee the performance of an assigned Break Time Convenience Store. Responsibilities include recruiting, hiring, training and evaluating employees with a focus on customer service and store sales. Responsibilities Working with customers — Provide excellent customer service by engaging with customers and encouraging the store team to do the same; greet and thank each customer and provide fast and friendly service; support peak hours; handle complaints quickly and courteously; conduct accurate and efficient transactions Day-to-day store operations — Oversee all aspects of store operation including daily reporting, banking, inventory, bookkeeping, and fuel management; ensure the facility and all equipment and property are well maintained and in good condition; maintain store cleanliness; ensure timely open and close and observation of all scheduled hours; execute food programs including promoting food service and safety Merchandising and sales — Ensure proper execution of marketing programs; identify opportunities to increase sales; perform merchandising activities including proper pricing, promotions, vendor check-in, and keeping merchandise stocked, clean, fronted, and faced (including the cooler) Supervising — Oversee general operations of the store; supervise employees, including scheduling and organizing work; provide clear direction; train, develop and motivate employees; enforce company policies and safety requirements; monitor productivity; conduct performance evaluations and resolve conflicts; review and approve time entry and ensure adherence to schedules Financial responsibility — Understand and manage store finances and profitability; control shortages and expenses; participate in cash, lottery, cigarettes and general inventory audits; investigate results and plan for improvement; meet or exceed sales and controllable expense goals; perform loss control functions related to cash handling, lottery sales and redemptions, food waste, employee purchases and merchandise; remain alert and report concerns Teamwork — Recruit, train, coach, and develop a team of associates to meet customers’ needs; maintain professionalism and create a positive work culture; promote teamwork daily to drive performance; ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations Working with technology — Use the store’s technology; perform calculations to make change, complete shift reports, and count product; follow scheduling templates All Break Time employees are expected to know and adhere to company and position-specific policies and procedures. Employees may be asked to perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or GED 18 years of age or older Availability to work all shifts, including weekends and holidays Valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance with adequate transportation to/from bank (locked vehicle when transporting deposits) Thrives in a fast-paced environment Works well individually and in leading a team Ability to perform mathematical calculations to make change and complete shift reports; count product during vendor check-in Ability to learn new concepts, use technical materials, and operate a computer and office equipment Ability to occasionally ascend/descend ladders to handle inventory Physical ability to move products in the cooler (temperatures as low as 30 degrees) for up to one hour and in the freezer (0 degrees) Physical ability to move and position items weighing up to 50 pounds Ability to observe and inspect the work environment for safety concerns Ability to stand for up to nine hours per shift Ability to communicate in English (read, write, speak) with customers and coworkers Ability to meet company requirements including pre-employment background check and drug test Legal authorization to work in the United States Preferred Skills Experience in retail sales About MFA Petroleum Company MFA Petroleum is a subsidiary of MFA Oil Company, a farmer-owned cooperative founded in 1929.
