University of Colorado Anschutz Colorado School of Public Health | Lifecourse Epidemiology of Adiposity & Diabetes Center Bilingual Research Specialist Position #: 00852671 - Requisition #: 40968 Job Summary: Join the Colorado School of Public Health as a Bilingual Research Specialist (Open Rank Research Services Intermediate - Principal Professional). This position is a key member of the school's Lifecourse Epidemiology of Adiposity and Diabetes (LEAD) Center, a multidisciplinary research center that investigates and seeks to understand the developmental origins of health and disease, particularly obesity, type 1 and type 2 diabetes, and the complex interplay of environmental exposures, genetic, and epigenetic processes in critical developmental periods across the lifecourse. The Bilingual Research Specialist will work as part of a collaborative research team to aid in implementation of observational epidemiological studies such as the Healthy Start Teens and ECHO Pediatrics study protocols. Key responsibilities include assisting with daily operational tasks such as conducting in-person and remote study visits, obtaining and processing blood and other biospecimen collections, administering surveys, performing data entry, and carrying out quality assurance activities with minimal supervisory oversight. Strict compliance with IRB rules, regulations, and guidance is required. Key Responsibilities: Collect physical measurements including weight, height, and other diet and physical activity measures. Administer health-related questionnaires to study participants. Collect blood samples from participants; process and ship blood samples to labs for analysis. Coordinate scheduling and logistics of in-person and remote study visits. Support participant engagement through outreach and communication. Participate in study-related travel and offsite clinic events as needed. Review, translate, and prepare study documents, forms, and recruitment scripts from English to Spanish while ensuring accuracy, clarity, and cultural appropriateness for IRB submission and form implementation. This position can be offered at part-time (0.75 FTE) to full-time (1.0 FTE) depending on candidate preference and availability. This position reports to the Project Manager. Qualifications: Minimum Requirements Intermediate Level A bachelor's degree in biological sciences, health/medical research, public health, social/behavioral sciences, physical sciences, healthcare, or a directly related field from an accredited institution. One (1) year of professional level experience in a clinical or research setting following protocols and working directly with patients/study participants, including phlebotomy experience and/or certification. Bilingual English and Spanish speaking required. Senior Level A bachelor's degree in biological sciences, health/medical research, public health, social/behavioral sciences, physical sciences, healthcare, or a directly related field from an accredited institution. Two (2) years of professional level experience in a clinical or research setting following protocols and working directly with patients/study participants, including phlebotomy experience and/or certification. Bilingual English and Spanish speaking required. Principal Level A bachelor's degree in biological sciences, health/medical research, public health, social/behavioral sciences, physical sciences, healthcare, or a directly related field from an accredited institution. Three-five (3-5) years of professional level experience in a clinical or research setting following protocols and working directly with patients/study participants, including phlebotomy experience and/or certification. Bilingual English and Spanish speaking required. Substitution : A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree at all levels on a year for year basis. Preferred Qualifications IV certification or other healthcare credentials related to venous blood collection in a professional setting (or a willingness to obtain IV certification) is strongly preferred for this position. Experience working with children, teenagers, and young adults. Working knowledge of epidemiology, environmental health, and/or chronic diseases, such as obesity and diabetes. Experience in specimen processing and technical laboratory skills. Conditions of Employment Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for study visits off-site or in participants' homes as needed. Ability to consistently work one weekend day (i.e., Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday schedule). Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution. Outstanding customer service skills. Demonstrated phlebotomy skills. Demonstrated experience in fostering a community that values a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. Knowledge of and experience with possible negative reactions to blood collection, including fainting and nausea. Organizational skills to process lab results. Anticipated Salary Range: The starting target salary for this position has been established as: Intermediate Level $51,000 - $64,000 per year Senior Level $58,000 - $70,000 per year Principal Level $64,000 - $80,000 per year The above salary represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
