Payroll Manager - Construction Industry Job Summary Our client, a growing construction organization, is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to oversee payroll operations for a large multi-state workforce. This role will be responsible for managing complex union payroll , ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements, payroll tax regulations, certified payroll requirements, and prevailing wage reporting. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction payroll, multi-state payroll processing, and payroll team leadership. Responsibilities Manage the end-to-end payroll process for hourly and salaried employees across multiple states Oversee union payroll processing and ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements Review and approve weekly and bi-weekly payroll runs for accuracy and timeliness Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations Manage certified payroll reporting and prevailing wage requirements for construction projects Oversee payroll deductions, garnishments, benefits, and union fringe contributions Reconcile payroll accounts and support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities Lead payroll audits and respond to internal and external audit requests Maintain payroll policies, procedures, and internal controls Partner with HR, Accounting, and Operations teams on employee onboarding, compensation changes, and payroll-related initiatives Qualifications 5+ years of payroll experience, including leadership or management responsibilities Construction industry payroll experience required Union payroll experience required Multi-state payroll experience required Strong knowledge of certified payroll and prevailing wage regulations Experience processing high-volume payroll for field and corporate employees Advanced Excel skills, including VLOOKUPs and Pivot Tables Experience with payroll systems such as ADP, UKG, Workday, Ceridian, Viewpoint, Foundation, or similar platforms Strong knowledge of payroll tax compliance and wage and hour laws Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills CPP certification preferred but not required Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Garden City, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $80.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
