Margaret Blount Harvey Literacy Institute Coordinator Position Title: Margaret Blount Harvey Literacy Institute Coordinator Location: College of Education, East Carolina University Employment Type: Part‑time faculty (Teaching) – 0.00 FTE (subject to funding) Number of Vacancies: 1 Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications (subject to budget and UNC salary administration). Responsibilities Design and deliver professional development in literacy education for pre‑service and in‑service educators across multiple grade levels and instructional contexts. Develop and facilitate professional learning experiences in formats such as seminars, conferences, webinars, summer workshops, and community outreach events. Assess stakeholder needs to determine appropriate training formats, content areas, and delivery methods for literacy‑focused professional development. Create instructional materials and resources that support evidence‑based literacy practices and align with current research and state standards. Evaluate the effectiveness of professional development offerings through feedback, data collection, and continuous improvement processes. Manage logistics for professional learning events, including scheduling, communication, registration, and coordination of materials. Lead initiatives that strengthen best practices in literacy instruction, including modeling effective strategies and supporting implementation in educational settings. Collaborate with school districts, community partners, and university faculty to coordinate literacy programming and expand outreach efforts. Support the mission of the Margaret Blount Harvey Literacy Institute by promoting literacy advancement and contributing to long‑term program planning. Represent the Institute at events and meetings, serving as a liaison to internal and external stakeholders. Qualifications Current faculty appointment (fixed or tenure track) in the College of Education with research or teaching responsibilities that focus on literacy. Master’s degree in literacy or a closely related field. Demonstrated strong organizational and leadership skills. Demonstrated advanced training and expertise in literacy instruction. Experience supporting the ongoing professional growth of educators. Knowledge of evidence‑based literacy practices and current research. Reporting and Collaboration The Coordinator reports to the Dean of the College of Education and collaborates closely with the Department Chair of Literacy Studies and Special Education, as well as the Spangler Distinguished Professor to advance the mission and vision of the Institute.
