Maintenance Assistant A Maintenance Assistant performs semi‑skilled tasks on the transit bus fleet at the University of Georgia. Duties include fueling diesel buses, dispensing diesel exhaust fluid, plugging in and monitoring electric buses, cleaning buses, and performing basic maintenance. The role requires working outdoors in all weather conditions. Location: Athens, Georgia Salary: $14.00 per hour (updated 07/01/25) Employment Type: Employee, Temporary Service/Maintenance, FLSA Non‑Exempt, FTE 0.49 Responsibilities Detailing: Clean inside buses, including sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, wiping windows. Prep special event buses and address special cleaning needs. Scrub rear of bus prior to automatic bus wash. Drive bus through automatic bus wash to clean exterior. Fueling: Move buses in and around the depot for fueling and charging as needed. Perform diesel fueling operations using fast‑connect dispenser. Dispense Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF). Plug in and monitor electric bus charging. General: Track buses after routes and ensure they are cleaned and fueled before service. Report interior and exterior damage to maintenance staff. Inspect and clean graffiti from interior and exterior. Conform to safety standards as prescribed. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Ability to work in adverse climates. Valid driver’s license. Ability to work with solvents, detergents, and adhesives. Ability to clean large vehicles. Ability to work independently and cooperatively. Recognize and report hazards and apply safe work methods. Physical and mental stamina commensurate with position duties. Physical Demands Walking, occasional balancing, standing, pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, kneeling, stooping, crouching, reaching, handling, and repetitive fine motor activities.
