Instructional Assistant/Personal Care CNA – Sunrise Middle School Year 2026‑2027 Job Details Job ID: 5741966 Posted: May 27, 2026 Application Deadline: Until filled Starting Date: Aug 3, 2026 Duration: 08/03/2026 – 05/27/2027 Position Type: 6.75 hrs/day, Non‑Interim Salary: $17.50/hour (Grade 17) Job Categories: Instructional Support > Individual Aide FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt Purpose Statement The Instructional Assistant/Personal Care CNA supports the instructional program by providing one‑to‑one assistance to medically fragile students, meeting their special health care needs, aiding the teacher with small group instruction, and collaborating with the nurse to meet educational goals. Essential Functions Adapt classroom activities, assignments, and materials to support classroom objectives under teacher direction. Administer immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional (e.g., diapering, tube feeding, colostomy bag management, medication administration). Assist students with mobility concerns (e.g., wheelchair transfers, bus loading/unloading). Attend meetings and in‑service presentations on first aid, CPR, and emergency procedures. Collaborate with the nurse to promote and secure student health services and comply with care plans. Communicate with supervising instructional staff, support personnel, and parents to evaluate progress and implement IEP objectives. Escort students to ensure safety. Maintain instructional materials, manuals, and electronic records for availability and compliance. Monitor students during assigned periods in various school environments (lunch, bus stops, playground, classroom, field trips, public transportation, assemblies). Other Functions Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient functioning of the work unit. Job Requirements – Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Certified Nursing Assistant, Medical Technician, or Patient Care Technician certification. Maintain required certificates and licenses. Criminal background clearance. Valid Arizona DPS Level I IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card. Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Adherence to safety practices; use of standard office equipment and relevant software; accurate record keeping. Basic math (fractions, percentages, ratios); reading manuals; writing documents; presenting information. Instructional procedures; age‑appropriate student activities; safety practices; conflict resolution; child development; first aid and CPR. Scheduling activities; collecting and analyzing data; operating job‑related equipment; flexibility; teamwork; confidentiality; positive rapport with students, staff, and community. Responsibility Work under limited supervision, following standardized practices; lead, guide, or coordinate others; utilize resources from other units as needed. Work Environment Physical demands include significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity. Activities involve approximately 34% sitting, 33% walking, and 33% standing. Conditions include minimal temperature variation and exposure to risk of injury or illness.
