Must-Have: Experience with vented patients, tracheostomies, chest tubes, critical drip maintenance, central line maintenance, arterial lines, wound care, wound vacs, drains, cardiac rhythm interpretation, peripheral IV starts, NG tube insertion/maintenance. EPIC experience required.

Description: This position is for an RN in the Intensive Care Unit. The facility has a 14-bed unit. The average patient census is typically around 14. Patient types include adults only. Common diagnoses include sepsis, DKA, strokes, CIWA, respiratory, kidney, and liver failure, GI bleeds, surgical patients, CHF, and COPD. There are no cardiothoracic or high-level neuro surgeries performed. Patient ratios will be 1:2-3, depending on staffing levels. The unit is supported by 1 certified nursing assistant who covers Health Unit Coordinator duties during the night shift. There are cameras in the rooms for remote triage RN support, with the ability to transfer to a remote physician during nights. During the day, there is a charge nurse available who can take patients if needed, but not on a regular basis. The charge RN is a part of the Rapid Response/Code Team. Phlebotomy services are available 24/7, although ICU nurses will draw their own labs. A PICC team is available during the day, and anesthesia services can be provided at night for central line placements. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7. There is a hospitalist and an intensivist present 24/7. Bedside monitors and central monitors are available at the nursing station. Floating to other areas may occur, but typically not to MedSurg units. Desirable schedule includes a weekend rotation of 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week schedule. There are holiday expectations of working 50% of holidays as per the contract. It is possible to request time off, with respect to the unit's needs. Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed, but the manager is open to picking up shifts if available. Scrub color is navy blue. The unit culture promotes teamwork and support for all staff members.
