Department Bio - GW Dining operates the on-campus dining program at GW. The GW Dining Team oversees 3 all-you-care-to-eat dining halls, 12+ retail locations, and much more.

Position Specific Summary - Dining Services is part of GW's Business Services Team overseeing all food operations on both Foggy Bottom and Mount Vernon Campuses. The Student Dining Auditor is a member of the GW Dining Services team and is responsible for conducting audits of all-you-care-to-eat (AYCTE) dining halls to ensure the highest standards of food safety, quality, and operational efficiency. Primary Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct Dining Hall Audits
  • Visit all three AYCTE dining halls (Pelham Commons, Shenkman, Thurston) during each shift.
  • Audit food safety standards by taking photographs and recording food temperatures.
  • Reporting
  • Prepare an end-of-shift report summarizing audit findings, including photographs, observations, and recorded temperatures.
  • Email the report to the GW Dining Team, including the Executive Director of Dining.
  • Ensure Safety and Sanitation Compliance
  • Adhere to ServSafe food safety standards during audits.
  • Successfully complete the ServSafe Food Handler Certification process during onboarding.
  • Team Collaboration
  • Attend monthly team meetings (1 hour) scheduled between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
  • Other Responsibilities perform additional duties related to dining services as assigned.

Standard Position Description - The student supports the daily operations of campus dining facilities by providing advanced food service, customer service, food safety, and operational compliance support. Duties may include: preparing and serving food, maintaining food safety and sanitation standards, assisting with inventory and retail operations, and independently conducting operational audits to ensure compliance with university and regulatory requirements. Students may also monitor dining operations during evenings and weekends, complete required documentation and reports, identify operational concerns, and communicate findings to professional staff. Special projects or duties may be assigned based on departmental operational needs.

Required Qualifications - This position requires advanced training and the ability to work independently with general supervision. Students must successfully complete all required departmental professional training and licenses, which may include food preparation procedures, FA allergen training, and ServSafe Food Handler Certification (or equivalent required certification) during onboarding. Students must demonstrate strong judgment, professionalism, attention to detail, and the ability to consistently follow food safety, sanitation, and operational procedures. The position also requires the ability to meet the physical demands of a fast-paced dining environment.

Preferred Qualifications - Previous experience in food service

Effective communication skills for preparing reports and working with team members

Efficiency in Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office
