RN Quality Management and Patient Safety Officer

Job Summary:

The Risk Manager and Patient Safety Officer is responsible for leading and implementing the internal risk management and patient safety programs within a healthcare organization. This role oversees compliance with state and federal regulations, conducts safety assessments, facilitates root cause analyses, and promotes quality improvements to reduce medical errors and adverse patient outcomes. The position requires collaboration with leadership, medical staff, and regulatory bodies to ensure high standards of care and organizational compliance. Responsibilities:

• Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive risk management program in accordance with applicable statutes and regulations.
• Investigate, evaluate, and report adverse incidents per regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate and facilitate disclosure of adverse incidents and ensure appropriate follow-up with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
• Analyze patient grievances related to risk management and facilitate Patient Safety Rounds.
• Provide risk management and patient safety education to departments and staff.
• Stay current on industry and clinical risk trends and regulatory standards including DNV, TJC, CMS, and CARF.
• Collaborate with Medical Directors, Chief Medical Officer, and Corporate Counsel on quality of care and risk management issues.
• Assist with accreditation and quality support activities such as chart audits, clinical reviews, and data support.
• Serve as a resource, mentor, and role model promoting professional communication and teamwork.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including cross coverage of quality management team roles.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Current, full, unrestricted Registered Nursing license in Alaska (or applied for prior to start date).
• Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) certification within two years of hire.
• Clinical competency certification within 3 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter.
• Minimum of 3 years' experience in risk management, patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance within healthcare.
• Strong leadership skills with experience facilitating cross-functional teams.
• Knowledge of accreditation requirements for acute care, ambulatory, and behavioral health systems.
• Proficient in data analytics, medical chart review, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience working with medical peer review and quality improvement methodologies.
• Familiarity with regulatory bodies and standards such as DNV, TJC, CMS, and CARF.
• Advanced skills in communication and problem-solving within healthcare settings.

Special Considerations:

• Position requires a minimum of 20% travel.
• Work environment includes office and healthcare settings with exposure to controlled temperature environments.
• Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, sitting, and occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.
• Employees must comply with safety rules, report accidents, and cooperate with investigations.

Scheduling:

• Standard daytime office hours with flexibility as needed for meetings, travel, and special projects.
• Shift assignments may include occasional extended hours to support organizational needs.
