Chief Financial Officer (CFO) – Green Dot Public Schools

The CFO is a senior financial leader who ensures the organization’s financial sustainability, strategic growth, and operational scalability. Reporting to the CEO and working closely with the COO, the CFO is a core member of the Green Dot Leadership Team and collaborates with the Board of Directors, Delta Board, and other key committees.

Responsibilities

• Strategic Financial Leadership and Planning
  • Develop short‑ and long‑term financial strategies aligned with Green Dot’s mission and growth plans.
  • Prepare multi‑year forecasts, scenario planning, and sensitivity analyses, encompassing income statements, balance sheets, and cash‑flow statements at both the individual school level and across the organization.
  • Provide strategic guidance to support expansion, enrollment growth, and programmatic investments across all 18 school sites and the home office.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the CEO and Board on financial strategy, sustainability, and risk.
  • Translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights for executive, board, and school leadership levels.
• School Finance, Capital Planning, and Real Estate
  • Oversee charter school finances across a multi‑site, network‑level environment.
  • Lead capital planning and long‑range facilities strategy, including bond financing, debt management, and capital project oversight.
  • Provide financial oversight and strategic guidance on Green Dot’s real‑estate portfolio in collaboration with the Delta Board and external advisors.
  • Ensure alignment between facilities planning, enrollment projections, and instructional needs.
• Budgeting and Forecasting
  • Lead the annual budgeting process for school sites and the home office, collaborating with department heads and senior management.
  • Incorporate collective bargaining agreements into budget forecasts and support the bargaining process through financial modeling.
  • Enhance budgeting tools to streamline the budgeting and forecasting process and manage budget performance throughout the fiscal year.
• Reporting and Analysis
  • Oversee standard and ad‑hoc analyses and reports that provide a comprehensive view of financial and operational aspects.
  • Develop dashboards and reporting tools for leadership, school leaders, and the Board.
  • Provide regular financial updates to the Board on a bi‑monthly cadence, including adjustments and recommendations.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects to refine financial processes, optimize reporting systems, and implement best practices.
• Grants and Fund Management
  • Facilitate creation and management of budgets and projections for public and private funding sources.
  • Ensure precise grant budgets, adherence to funder‑specific spending limitations, and accurate reporting to funders.
  • Evaluate return on investment for programs and initiatives.
• Financial Operations, Compliance, and Risk Management
  • Oversee all financial operations: budgeting, accounting, audits, reporting, and internal controls.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local education regulations, charter law, and authorizer requirements.
  • Develop strategies to optimize cash reserves and investments, identify financial risks, and mitigate them.
  • Maintain and update financial policies and procedures aligned with industry best practices.
• Board and Committee Governance
  • Provide financial oversight to the Board of Directors, audit committee, and Delta Board.
  • Partner with Human Resources on the Benefits Committee and 401(k) fiduciary matters.
• Team Leadership and Management
  • Lead and manage the finance team, including a Controller and a Director of Finance, and support an Administrative Assistant.
  • Develop and evolve structure and reporting lines for Area Operations and Finance Managers under the COO.
  • Facilitate effective communication across finance and other departments.
  • Lead change initiatives to improve financial systems, processes, and organizational effectiveness.
• Culture and Relationship Management
  • Build trust and credibility across a large, mission‑driven education team.
  • Communicate financial information and trade‑offs clearly and with integrity to stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement changes as necessary.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; MBA, MPP, CPA, or similar advanced degree or certification preferred.
• 8–12+ years of progressive financial leadership experience required, with charter school experience required.
• Demonstrated experience with charter school finance, public funding, audits, and regulatory compliance.
• Proven experience with capital financing, including bonds and facilities planning.
• Experience partnering with Boards of Directors or Finance Committees.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
• Pass a TB test, background check at time of offer, and provide proof of Covid‑19 vaccination.
• Strategic financial leader with deep charter school expertise and a forward‑looking mindset.
• Strong understanding of charter school finance, funding models, charter law, accreditation, and authorizer expectations.
• Entrepreneurial, adaptable, and comfortable operating in fast‑paced, growth‑oriented environments.
• Exceptional communicator with executive presence and ability to translate financial complexity into actionable insights.

Compensation

• Salary range: $200,000 – $240,000 (commensurate with experience).
