HR Generalist

Location: Aurora, IL, Fully On-Site

Reports To: Director of Human Resources
Pay Range: $25.00- $30.00/hr, dependent on experience

We are a growing, multi-state retail services organization looking for an HR Administrator to join our team in Aurora, IL. This is an on-site, full-time role for someone who enjoys being the go-to person for employees on everything from benefits and leave questions to HRIS data and compliance. You'll balance hands-on employee relations work with system administration and multi-state compliance, helping ensure processes run accurately, fairly, and on schedule.

This is not a remote or hybrid position. To be considered, candidates must be able to reliably commute to and work from our Aurora, IL office- we're prioritizing applicants who live within approximately 30 minutes of Aurora, IL.

Employee Relations

• Serve as a trusted point of contact for employees on workplace concerns and issues, providing guidance and support through to resolution.
• Manage employee accommodation requests, working directly with employees to identify and implement reasonable accommodations under the ADA and applicable state law.
• Support employees through leave-related disputes, including eligibility questions, documentation issues, and return-to-work conflicts, helping resolve concerns fairly and in compliance with applicable law.
• Serve as employees' point of contact for benefits questions- plan options, eligibility, enrollment, and claims issues- partnering with the benefits carrier or broker to resolve them.
• Support employees with time-off requests and balances, including PTO, sick leave, and state-mandated leave, ensuring accurate tracking and timely resolution of questions.
• Help employees navigate iSolved for day-to-day needs- updating personal information, accessing pay and benefits records, submitting time-off requests, and troubleshooting access or system issues.

HRIS & Data Management

• Serve as a system administrator and subject matter expert for the HRIS (iSolved strongly preferred), maintaining data integrity across employee records, pay, benefits, and org structure.
• Process employee lifecycle transactions- new hires, transfers, promotions, terminations, and pay changes- accurately and on schedule.
• Build and maintain reports and dashboards (headcount, turnover, leave usage, compliance status) to support HR and business decision-making.
• Partner with Payroll to ensure HRIS data flows correctly into pay processing and resolve discrepancies.
• Identify opportunities to automate and streamline HR processes through better use of the HRIS.

Multi-State Compliance

• Help monitor and interpret federal, state, and local employment law changes (wage and hour, leave, pay transparency, paid sick leave, final pay, etc.) across all states where the company has employees.
• Administer leave programs (FMLA, ADA, state paid/unpaid leave, and company leave policies) and manage accommodation requests in compliance with applicable law.
• Support wage and hour compliance, including exemption classification reviews and state-specific pay practice requirements.
• Prepare for and support audits, EEO-1 reporting, and other compliance filings.

General HR Support

• Support the full employee lifecycle, including onboarding, benefits administration support, and offboarding.
• Assist with performance management cycles, including scheduling, communication, and data tracking.
• Respond to unemployment claims, verification of employment requests, and other routine HR administrative needs.
• Contribute to HR projects, including employee training development, engagement initiatives, and process improvements.

• 3– 5 years of experience in a Human Resources Generalist or similar role.
• Demonstrated experience handling employee relations matters, including investigations and manager coaching.
• Hands-on experience administering an HRIS; iSolved experience strongly preferred (other platforms such as UKG, ADP Workforce Now, Paylocity, or Workday will be considered).
• Working knowledge of multi-state employment law, including wage and hour, leave, and termination requirements.
• Strong discretion and judgment when handling confidential and sensitive employee information.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain policy and legal requirements in plain language.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly spreadsheets and reporting tools.
• Ability to work on-site in Aurora, IL five days a week; candidates should live within approximately 30 minutes of Aurora, IL.

• PHR, SHRM-CP, or equivalent HR certification preferred.
• Experience supporting employees in high-regulation states (e.g., California, New York, Illinois, Washington).
• Experience with leave-of-absence administration and ADA interactive process.
