Speech‑Language Pathologist – Pediatrics Mar 20, 2026 Location : Medical Center East (MCE), South Tower Schedule : Full‑Time | Monday–Friday Vanderbilt Health is seeking a Speech‑Language Pathologist (SLP) to join our outpatient pediatric rehabilitation team, offering a unique blend of preschool classroom‑based therapy and individual outpatient pediatric treatment. This role is ideal for an SLP who enjoys variety, collaboration, and supporting children during critical early communication milestones. This position includes dedicated time within The Preschool for Children with Autism at the Vanderbilt Bill Wilkerson Center, combined with traditional outpatient pediatric speech therapy. Program Overview 50 % – Preschool Classroom‑Based Therapy I will co‑treat alongside another experienced SLP in The Preschool for Children with Autism, an intensive communication‑focused program for young children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Responsibilities include working within a structured classroom setting focused on early communication development; supporting three children’s communication, social interaction, and functional language skills; collaborating with an interdisciplinary team that includes Speech‑Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Feeding Therapists, Behavior Analyst Consultants, and specially trained teaching assistants. 50 % – Outpatient Pediatric Speech Therapy Evaluating and treating children with speech, language, and cognitive communication disorders (no more than 8 patients a day). Addressing developmental delays and pediatric communication challenges. Developing individualized treatment plans aligned with each child’s needs and family goals. Providing caregiver education to support therapy carryover at home. Collaborating daily with pediatric providers and audiology professionals. Documenting care in EPIC, following Vanderbilt Health standards. Required Qualifications Master’s degree in Speech‑Language Pathology. ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC‑SLP). Current Tennessee SLP license or eligibility for licensure. At least one year of pediatric experience in a school, outpatient or rehabilitation setting. Preferred Experience Experience using Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices and strategies. Comfort working with children on the autism spectrum. Key Responsibilities Analyze comprehensive information from formal and informal assessment to determine a rehabilitation treatment diagnosis. Collaborate with stakeholders to establish the plan of care, coordinate and implement care delivery, and anticipate patient care needs across the rehabilitation continuum. Apply evidence‑based interventions to ensure effective outcomes and re‑evaluate performance to assess patient progress toward goals. Employ strategies to promote successful return to home, community, and school/vocational environments. Supervise graduate students by providing instruction, guidance, and training to ensure competent patient care and documentation. Additional duties may be assigned. Technical Capabilities Speech Pathology Treatment Implementation – demonstrate proficiency providing treatment consistent with physician prescription and established plan of care, identifying objectives based on assessment results and family input, writing functional objectives, applying evidence‑based clinical management practices, and recommending additional/alternative services when appropriate. Speech Pathology Patient Evaluation – proficiency in evaluating patients with speech‑language, auditory, and/or swallowing/oral feeding deficits using appropriate testing methods and equipment, obtaining case history, selecting appropriate measures, performing functional assessment, interpreting results, and communicating findings. Discharge Planning – proficiency in the discharge planning process, informing patients, family, and team of the patient’s needs, making recommendations for continued services, follow‑up, or referrals, and anticipating transition needs. Speech Pathology Patient & Family Education – proficiency in communicating functional impact of assessment findings and treatment planning, providing appropriate literature, and supervising/educating students as needed. Rehab Therapist Patient Documentation – proficiency in documentation practices, using approved abbreviations, and meeting institutional standards.
