LEARNING DISABILITIES SPECIALIST (DSPS): Adjunct Non-Classroom Instructor POOL (college credit) Position Summary: The Learning Disabilities Specialist works under the direction of the Director, DSPS to provide assessment and support to CalWORKs clients with possible learning disabilities, and may be assigned to various district facilities. Major Responsibilities Provide assessment for learning disabilities using the California Community College Eligibility Model. Evaluate clients’ academic strengths and weaknesses. Discuss test interpretation and recommended accommodations with clients. Consult with CalWORKs personnel regarding implementation of accommodations and strategies for potential work. Maintain related records for completed assessment and services provided to clients. Represent DSPS at meetings and district functions as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in learning disabilities, special education, education, psychology, educational psychology, or rehabilitation counseling AND at least fifteen semester units of upper division or graduate study in Learning Disabilities; OR Possession of a California Community College Disabled Student Programs & Services Credential with a specialization in Learning Disabilities that is valid for life; OR The equivalent credential, and Successful completion of the California Community College Chancellor’s Office “Learning Disabilities Eligibility Model Training.” Desired Qualifications Completion of the “Learning Disabilities Eligibility Model Training” or verified professional training on assessment instruments such as WAIS, Woodcock Johnson, or WIAT. Recent experience administering and interpreting WAIS IV, Woodcock Johnson III, WIAT II, or other applicable instruments. Knowledge and application of appropriate work and instructional strategies for students with learning disabilities. Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team. Knowledge of technology for assessment, recordkeeping, and instruction. Strong written and interpersonal communication skills. Experience working with diverse student populations. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Effective organizational skills.
