Contract Details

• Position Type: Contract
• Contract Duration: 3 months
• Pay Rate: $40.00 / Hour (USD)
• Shift / Schedule: 4x10, 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM, 4 days/week; must include Thursday and Friday; additional days can be negotiated. Every other weekend required. Must be available to work every other holiday, if needed.

Job Summary

This is a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) position in the Discharge Lounge at a 528-bed acute care teaching facility in Rochester, NY. The LPN will manage their own patient assignment with the support of an RN, serving a medical-surgical patient population that includes cases such as COPD exacerbation, infections, failure to thrive, and social issues.

Key Responsibilities

• Take own patient assignment with the support of an RN
• Perform vital signs, pain assessment, intake/output monitoring, isolation precautions, and physical restraints
• Conduct specimen labeling, oxygen administration via nasal cannula, feeding tube management, telemetry monitoring, and 12-lead EKG
• Administer medications via oral, IM, SQ, NG/G-tube, ear and eye drop routes; perform IV therapy with pumps and blood glucose monitoring
• Provide wound care basics (simple dressings, JP/Hemovac drains), bathing and mouth care
• Perform Foley catheter insertion (male/female) and clean catch urine collection
• Communicate status changes to RN/MD
• Float within skillset as required

Required Skills

• Acute Care experience within the last 2 years
• EPIC EHR charting experience required
• Proficiency in MS/Tele care setting
• Ability to take own patient assignment with RN support
• Vital signs, pain assessment, intake/output monitoring
• Isolation precautions and physical restraints
• Specimen labeling
• Oxygen administration via nasal cannula
• Feeding tube management
• Telemetry monitoring

Education Requirements

• Active New York Single State LPN license required (pending license not accepted; NY is not a Compact state)
• BLS certification required

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

• Unit: Discharge Lounge; Medical-Surgical/Telemetry care setting
• Patient population: Medical patients - COPD exacerbation, infections, failure to thrive, social issues
• Nurse-to-patient ratio (Days): 1:5-6
• Floating required within skillset
• Scrub color: Any combination of navy blue and white
• Call-off policy: Client may cancel (call off) up to three shifts during a 13-week contract period without incurring charges for the canceled hours
• RTO/Block & Special Scheduling Requests: Must submit requests upon submission
• First-time travelers accepted
• Local candidates accepted for LPNs
