Library Media Specialist (K-12)

Reports To: Building Administrator

Term: 10 months (200-day contract)

Job Goal: To serve as a resource from students, teachers, and community members to strengthen student learning and researching skills.

Qualifications And Training: Master's degree as required by the State of Tennessee Teacher's certificate with qualifying endorsement area FBI/TBI Fingerprint/Background Clearance every five (5) years Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent might find appropriate and acceptable

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.

Performance Responsibilities:

• Maintains an orderly and neat library.
• Works collaboratively with classroom teachers and school administrators to integrate both curricular concepts and information skills that assist research and other learning activities.
• Provides an environment that allows efficient access to resources, including both print and electronic.
• Maintains a collection that adequately supports the curricular priorities within the school.
• Provides services that adequately support the curricular priority within the school.
• Provides staff assistance in designing activities that help students learn to identify, analyze, and synthesize information by using a variety of materials and formats.
• Participates in instructional planning by collaborating with classroom teachers to design, implement and evaluate resource-based teaching units.
• Assists students and staff in the use and production of supplementary teaching/learning materials.
• Explains and assists in the use of reference resources, periodical indexes, computerized search systems.
• Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
