Deputy Program Manager, Engineering (DPME)

Basic Qualifications Education Requirements:Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field, plus a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 13 years of relevant experience.Clearance Requirements:Ability to obtain a Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required. Responsibilities for this Position The Deputy Program Manager, Engineering (DPME) is responsible for overseeing engineering projects, ensuring high-quality deliverables, and fostering cross-functional collaboration. The role involves managing engineering resources, resolving technical issues, and maintaining project schedules and budgets. The DPME also plays a key role in risk management, performance feedback, and project change management.REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:Plans, authorizes, and monitors the engineering work (including providing strong leadership to ensure all events occur as planned)Staffs the project team (along with Director of Engineering) with the appropriate engineering personnelFosters cross-functional collaboration and builds project consensusOversees performance, cost, scope and schedule for all engineering efforts (including efforts that are subcontracted)Ensures that total system requirements are validatedEnsures that total system is integrated, tested and verifiedEnsures all project deliverables (including documentation) are developed with high quality and delivered on timeDevelops and maintains engineering plans as required by the projectManages the engineering related risks and opportunities of the projectDevelops and manages the project change management processEnsures that all engineering processes to be used adhere to established engineering practicesManages engineering resources (e.g. staff assignments, capital equipment, etc.), organizational interfaces, and engineering scopeIdentifies, develops, analyzes, and reports engineering project measuresConducts monthly engineering status reviews and provides material for the monthly program reviewsImplements effective corrective actions as requiredManages the resolution of technical issues, communicates the resolution to all affected parties, and ensures that the resolution is carried out in all of the affected artifacts.Conducts lessons learned after each major phase of the projectScope of projects are usually large (>$50M) and or have large engineering teams (>50)Motivates the engineering team and provides a clear understanding of project goalsRewards the team members that drive the success of the projectProvides performance feedback and management for the project teamTakes immediate & decisive action in dealing with technical & performance issuesLeads large proposals with identification of cross business unit strengths and technical shortcomingKNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Tremendous leadership skillsProven team building and motivation skillsProven conflict resolution and negotiation skillsProven problem solving skills in complex environmentsRecognized internally and externally as an expert in project managementTremendous ability to apply or develop highly advanced technologies, principles, theories and conceptsTremendous understanding of company policies and practicesTremendous understanding of engineering processes and practicesTremendous planning and organization skillsTremendous knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of tools and Microsoft ProjectTremendous knowledge of various project life cycles including agileTremendous ability to communicate issues, impacts, and corrective actionsTremendous ability to easily and effectively communicate project topics to a diverse audienceTremendous ability to clearly report relevant informationTremendous ability to understand and apply project leadership principles including SPI/CPI, Earned Value, Cost Account Management (CAM), and Statistical Process Controls for large complex programsTremendous ability to anticipate technology, process, and skill needsDemonstrates proactive leadership and has name recognition throughout both the company and customer organizationsCreates an environment in which impact of technology on the business is clearly recognizedIdentifies opportunities to apply AI for continuous improvement and innovation Salary Note This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.).
