Experience/Training A current Peace Officer in the State of California. Graduation from an Academy approved by the Torrance Police Department. Out-of-State Applicants: Must have graduated from a Police Academy approved by the Torrance Police Department. Education High School graduate. Certificates/License Must possess a POST Basic Certificate. Valid California Driver's License (prior to appointment date). Age Must be age 21 by the date of filing. Applicants will be reviewed on a weekly basis, and only those candidates whose training and experience best meet our requirements will be invited to the examination. Examinations will be conducted on a periodic basis depending on the needs of the City and the Department. The examination will consist of a panel interview (weighted 100%) which will explore the candidate's background, training, and experience. Names of candidates will be retained on the Eligible List (List for Hire) for a period of six (6) months. Candidates must pass a thorough background investigation to be considered for hire. The background investigation will include job and personal references, arrest records, credit history, use of controlled substances, medical evaluations, a psychological evaluation, and a polygraph. Note for Lateral Applicants Upon appointment, Officers are placed in our Field Training Program.
