Description

American Traveler seeks a Certified Surgical Technologist with ENT, plastics, and ophthalmology experience for a specialty OR position at a teaching hospital.

Details

• Day/evening 12-hour shifts, Monday through Friday, with shift start times of 0640 or 1040
• Weekday and weekend call responsibilities, with possible holiday call
• Schedule will vary during first 1-2 weeks for orientation
• Specialty focus on Eyes, ENT, and Plastics (Tier 7)
• Eye procedures include vitrectomy and open globe repair
• Plastics procedures include abdominoplasty, DIEP flap surgery, breast reconstruction, free flap, and laparoscopic cases
• ENT procedures include arch bars, facial repairs (mandibular, zygomatic), sinus surgery, radical neck dissection, tracheostomy, septoplasty, and direct laryngoscopy
• Cochlear implant procedures for ear surgeries
• Uses specialized equipment including Constellation, Straight Shot, liposuction, neoprobe, NIM, Piezo, Klein Pump, and Stryker Navigation
• Uses Pentero, Mitaka, and Leica microscopes
• Travelers are required to float as needed

Requirements

• Minimum of two years of scrub experience or equivalent relevant experience required
• BLS certification from the AHA required
• Completion of a surgical technologist program, or two years of experience as a Surgical Technologist in lieu of program completion
• CST credential preferred
• License required if applicable
• ENT, plastics, and ophthalmology experience required
• Trauma Level II experience required
• Trauma Level I, teaching hospital, and community hospital experience preferred
• Experience with plastics procedures including abdominoplasty, breast augmentation, fat grafting, and free flap microvascular surgery preferred
• Experience with ophthalmology procedures including cataract extraction/implant, corneal transplant, eye trauma, and glaucoma surgery
• Experience with ENT procedures including mastoidectomy/tympanoplasty/stapedectomy, tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy, and endoscopic sinus procedures
• Experience with oral surgery procedures including closed reduction facial fractures/wiring and repair of fractured jaws
• Craniotomy experience for neurosurgery cases
• Must live more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible

Additional Information

• Must be comfortable caring for gender reassignment surgical patients
• Support surgical procedures across Eyes, ENT, and Plastics specialties in a General OR setting
• Maintain aseptic technique and follow isolation precautions/PPE protocols
• Handle specimen labeling and care of scopes and fiber optic equipment
• Operate and maintain equipment including cell saver, crash cart, drills, and electrosurgical units
• Follow laser and radiation safety protocols
• Work within a Magnet-designated teaching hospital and trauma center environment
• A telemetry exam with strict pass/fail criteria is required prior to start, covering both adult and pediatric rhythm identification
• Up to two attempts are allowed for the telemetry exam, with a third attempt possible after completing a cardiac interpretation review course
• Parking permit required for onsite parking, with alternative transportation options available
• Local candidates will not be accepted for this position
