Purpose Contributes to the overall success of the Finance Department in the Cayman Islands by ensuring specific individual goals, plans, and initiatives are executed and delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are compliant with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures. Accountabilities Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge. Management Reporting Monitor internal and external financial reporting for reasonableness and accuracy, including reviewing monthly trial balance submissions, where applicable, to ensure figures are complete prior to sign-off; Prepare the Monthly Reporting Package within required timelines, including detailed reviews, analytics, related commentary, and engagement with other business and support units; Monitor and analyze financial results to identify significant variances, financial risks, and profitability issues, and recommend actions to country/business line management to manage or optimize trends in support of strategic objectives; Preparation of any specialized and ad hoc reporting, as required by Scotiabank Head Office. Planning and forecasting Execute planning and forecasting methodologies, providing professional support to management teams in preparing and analyzing targets; Assist with the development of the Strategic/Business Plans; Ensure the integrity and timely completion of the annual profit planning exercise; Ensure the integrity and timely completion of the monthly forecasting exercises; Provide planning/forecasting support to the business ensuring key variances are highlighted and action plans developed; Monitor budgets to ensure effective controls are in place over expense management; Provide analysis and insightful reporting on the trending of expenses to facilitate the proactive management of expenses; Identify efficiency opportunities and liaise with the Director, Finance to assess feasibility and support implementation; Monitor local and international banking laws/regulations, economic and political climates and analyze implications of changes on plans/budgets. Monitor changes to Scotiabank policies, products, operating systems and other relevant data and analyze implications for plans/budgets; Ensure the availability of MIS reporting to provide information on portfolio performance and profitability and provide management with recommendations for appropriate action to maximize returns and profitability; Provide support for the conduct of financial reviews of strategic business initiatives including new acquisitions and integrations/ products / markets; and Coordinate, review and track/facilitate remediation of issues from internal audits ensuring timely resolution. Accounting Policy Maintain awareness of local accounting, taxation, and accounting policies and procedures, ensuring changes are fully understood and reliably implemented, with policy and procedure manuals maintained where applicable; Understand BNS IFRS requirements and interpret and implement processes, procedures, and GAAP adjustments to ensure local records are compliant with local GAAP and reporting to Scotiabank Head Office is compliant with BNS IFRS requirements; Monitor changes to Scotiabank policies, products and operating systems and ensure required changes are reliably implemented, including ensuring new accounts for new products are mapped appropriately; and Provide accounting support for complex transactions/products. Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions. Actively pursue effective and efficient operations within their respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to, and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk, and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook, and the Guidelines for Business Conduct. Education Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a finance-related discipline and/or a recognized accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, CGA, CPA) At least five years of experience in a finance role Strong analytical skills, with a willingness to learn and adapt to changing requirements The ability to manage a variety of responsibilities in a fast paced, challenging environment Good knowledge of operating policies and procedures Good knowledge of the Banking application systems and policies Strong organizational skills Good level of computer literacy including Microsoft Suite Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities Good decision-making abilities Strong administration capabilities Strong written and oral communication skills Strong interpersonal skills to effectively address identified issues with stakeholders Location(s): Cayman Islands : Cayman Islands : George Town || Cayman Islands : Cayman Islands : West Bay Scotiabank is a leading bank in the Americas.
