Senior Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor - Clinical Resource Hub The Veterans Health Administration is seeking a Senior Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor for the VISN 20 Clinical Resource Hub Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program Team. This position supports Veterans Affairs facilities within VISN 20 by providing advanced behavioral health counseling services, psychosocial assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, counseling, case management, discharge planning, crisis intervention, consultation, and coordination with VA and community resources. Pay Scale & Grade: GS-12 Promotion Potential: None Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm Appointment Type: Permanent Telework: Eligible, as determined by agency policy Remote/Virtual: Not available Travel Required: Not required Recruitment/Relocation Incentives: Not authorized Drug Test: Not required Key Responsibilities: Provide advanced counseling services to Veterans and families experiencing complex medical, psychiatric, emotional, behavioral, and psychosocial concerns. Establish and maintain effective therapeutic relationships with Veterans and their families. Complete thorough psychosocial assessments to determine functioning, needs, diagnosis, treatment plan, and recovery goals. Collaborate with Veterans, families, caregivers, and interdisciplinary treatment team members to develop and implement treatment plans. Participate as a member of the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program treatment team. Apply advanced knowledge of mental health and substance abuse diagnoses and treatment procedures. Support discharge planning to ensure appropriate plans are developed and completed in a timely manner. Serve as a liaison between Veterans, families, VA programs, and community resources. Independently provide counseling, psychotherapy, and supportive groups for Veterans and families. Provide consultation and education to Veterans and families regarding community resources, VA benefits, specialty programs, and advance directives. Provide consultation to treatment team members and staff regarding psychosocial needs and the impact of psychosocial problems on care planning, treatment compliance, and discharge planning. Provide case management services to Veterans and families throughout the continuum of care. Assist Veterans in coping with disability, terminal illness, loss, grief, and other life-span issues. Independently assess and lead emergency or crisis intervention services for outpatients experiencing acute psychological crises. Assist with stabilization, referral arrangements, transfer to inpatient psychiatric care when needed, and follow-up care. Serve on committees and work groups as assigned. Act as a leader and role model within the BHIP team and in the delivery of telemental health counseling services. Maintain professional growth through continuing education and current evidence-based treatment practices. Basic Qualifications: Must be a U.S. Citizen. Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited in accordance with VA policy. Must be proficient in written and spoken English. Must be subject to a background/security investigation. Selective Service registration is required for males born after December 31, 1959. Must complete all application requirements and online onboarding requirements. Must participate in the seasonal influenza vaccination program as required for Department of Veterans Affairs health care personnel. Education and Licensure Requirements: Must have a masters or doctoral degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling, or a related field from a CACREP-accredited program. Related mental health counseling fields may include Addiction Counseling, Community Counseling, Gerontology Counseling, Marital, Couple, and Family Counseling, and similar fields. Traditional Rehabilitation Counseling programs accredited by CACREP do not meet the LPMHC qualification standard unless they meet the Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling requirement. Must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to independently practice as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor, including diagnosis and treatment. GS-12 Senior LPMHC Qualifications: Must have at least one year of progressively complex Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Must have five years of post-licensed experience demonstrating advanced practice skills, professional judgment, progressive competency, and clinical expertise. Must be licensed to provide clinical supervision to trainees or unlicensed Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselors. Must demonstrate advanced knowledge and mastery of theories and modalities used in specialized treatment of complex mental illness. Must be able to incorporate complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment of Veteran patients. Must be able to make psychosocial and psychiatric diagnoses within approved clinical privileges or scope of practice. Must demonstrate advanced and expert skill in specialized interventions and treatment modalities for Veterans with complex needs. Must be able to provide individual, group, and/or family counseling or psychotherapy. Must be able to coordinate specialized psychosocial services and programs and design system changes based on data. Must be able to provide subject matter consultation to colleagues and trainees. Must be able to teach, mentor staff and trainees, and provide supervision for licensure or specialty certifications. Must be able to communicate effectively with leadership, staff, and community stakeholders regarding policies, procedures, practice guidelines, and issues related to the profession. Preferred Experience: Experience in virtual care or tele-medicine. Experience with Oracle Health EMR. Additional Requirements: Selected candidate must live within 50 miles of any VISN 20 VA facility.
