The Town of Wellesley’s Department of Public Works has an opening for a part-time (19 hours per week, non–benefit eligible) Department Assistant. The Department Assistant provides administrative and bookkeeping support to the DPW’s Management Division. Key responsibilities include processing payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable; preparing requisitions and invoices; supporting Fleet Maintenance documentation; assisting with budget preparation; coordinating department-wide purchasing; updating website content; and responding to customer inquiries. The role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work accurately under tight deadlines. Reporting to the Senior Management Analyst, this position involves independent judgment, knowledge of departmental operations, and regular interaction with the public. Minimum qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent; at least three years of post-secondary education and/or office experience; proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet applications; strong keyboarding and arithmetic skills; excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal abilities; accuracy in recordkeeping; ability to work independently; and the ability to handle confidential information.
