Emergency Med Technician (EMT) Per Diem

Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Emergency Medic Technician (EMT) Per Diem. In this role the successful candidate provides pre‑hospital emergency medical care and transportation to the sick and injured through the NYC 911 system and demonstrates patient assessment history and care on the Ambulance Call Report. Job Responsibilities Arrive on time, in uniform with appropriate personal equipment and swipe in/out according to NYU policy. Show cultural awareness and offer interpreter assistance when needed. Assess patient condition and treat in accordance with NYS DOH and regional guidelines; transport and hand off care to hospital staff. Complete an electronic Pre‑Hospital Care Report (E‑PCR) for each patient contact, ensuring accuracy and compliance with NYU policies. Maintain a neat, clean professional appearance and visible identification. Notify the Rising Client Center (RCC) at shift start, log onto the CAD system, monitor MDT and radio for assignments, and communicate status changes following local protocol. Be familiar with and comply with the 911 System Provider Guide. Follow NYU, FDNY and NYS DOH guidelines for emergency vehicle operation; perform vehicle and equipment checks, replenish supplies, complete a checklist, and maintain NYS DOH Part 800 compliance. Work collaboratively with partners, other providers, and hospital staff to deliver quality care. Participate in departmental quality improvement programs and attend meetings and training sessions. Maintain qualifications to work in the NYC 911 system. Follow scheduling procedures and submit availability as required. Minimize and document out‑of‑service time on the Unit Activity Log with appropriate notifications. Drive an ambulance safely in both emergency and non‑emergency mode throughout the shift. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or G.E.D. and completion of a New York State Department of Health approved EMT Program. At least six (6) months of ambulance experience as an Emergency Medical Technician; six (6) months of 911 BLS experience preferred. Permanent state EMT card. Valid driver’s license. Certification in at least one of the following combinations: The Weapons of Mass Destruction Certificate (WMD) AND Haz‑Mat Awareness Certificate (CEVO) Standardized Awareness Certificate for EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operator Course). Required Licenses Standardized Awareness Cert, Hazardous Materials Cert, Weapons Mass Destruction Cert, EMT Cert, Driver’s License.
