About Sawa

Sawa Hibachi Steakhouse & Sushi Bar is a full-service restaurant specializing in hibachi tableside cooking, fresh sushi, and Thai-inspired cuisine. Under new ownership, we are focused on consistent execution, strong systems, and supporting the team we already have in place.

Position Summary

The BOH Manager / Kitchen Manager is a hands-on operational role focused on organization, cleanliness, inventory control, side work accountability, and supporting the current kitchen team . We are not looking for someone to overhaul the kitchen culture or mentor the existing chefs. We need a reliable leader who can work with and back up our current cooks, keep the kitchen running smoothly, and maintain standards every shift.

Key Responsibilities

• Support and work alongside the current line cooks (stir-fry, sushi, tempura, teriyaki)

• Back up stations as needed during service

• Maintain high standards of cleanliness, organization, and kitchen efficiency

• Oversee inventory management, ordering, receiving, and basic food cost control

• Ensure prep, side work, and closing duties are completed consistently

• Uphold food safety and sanitation standards

• Communicate clearly with ownership and coordinate with front-of-house when needed

• Protect company product — no unauthorized consumption or removal of food or beverages

Requirements

• Proven kitchen experience with the ability to lead by example

• Comfortable working with a multi-language kitchen team

• Strong focus on organization, cleanliness, process, and follow-through

• Experience with inventory, ordering, and basic food cost awareness

• Willing to work the line and support all stations when needed

• Reliable, honest, and professional

• Available evenings, weekends, and holidays

• ServSafe or equivalent certification preferred (or ability to obtain quickly)

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous Kitchen Manager, BOH Manager, or strong Lead Cook experience

• Experience in high-volume or multi-station kitchens

• Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Chinese) is a plus

• Familiarity with Asian, hibachi, or sushi restaurant environments is helpful but not required
