General Description Plan and implement a variety of recreational activities, leisure services, enrichment activities, intramurals, incentive programs, special events, holiday activities, school vacation activities, and facilitate use of incentive dorms/motivational areas. Maintain an inventory of equipment and recreational needs, and engage in healthy relationships and boundaries with staff and youth. Career Ladder Promotion Opportunity This position is part of the approved TJJD career ladder for Juvenile Correctional Officers (JCO) – Recreation. Promotion opportunities and salary adjustments are based on experience, education, and performance. Pre‑Service Training Academy Requirement Newly hired or rehired JCOs who have been separated for more than 18 months must attend the pre‑service training academy and complete on‑the‑job training on a full‑time basis. Those returning within 18 months are exempt and placed in full‑time status on the date of employment. Essential Functions Plan and implement special events, holiday activities, school vacation activities, intramurals, enrichment activities, and incentive programs. Facilitate the use of incentive dorms and motivational areas. Support youth programming on the dorm by providing materials for leisure, coach‑led activities, and meeting specialized needs. Document activities and maintain required records, files, and forms accurately and timely. Collaborate with direct care staff to provide equipment for scheduled coach‑led recreation, leisure recreation, and enrichment activities. Work cooperatively and collaboratively with co‑workers, providing mentoring and coaching as needed. Schedule work to meet campus needs, including evening and weekend programming. Practice appropriate self‑regulation skills and remain calm during stress and crisis situations. Provide a predictable schedule for youth, ensuring transparency and giving advance notice for all movements and transitions.
