Capital Project Engineer

Hood Container seeks a Project Engineer to support capital improvement projects, process optimization initiatives, and equipment reliability programs within our corrugated manufacturing operations. This position will work closely with operations, maintenance, production, and safety teams to improve plant performance, reduce costs, and support future growth.

The Project Engineer will play a critical role in identifying opportunities, developing technical solutions, and managing projects that improve productivity, quality, safety, and equipment reliability.

How You Will Contribute

• Support the development and execution of capital projects from concept through completion.
• Prepare engineering designs, equipment specifications, budgets, cost estimates, and project schedules.
• Lead equipment upgrades and process improvement initiatives.
• Coordinate vendors, contractors, and internal teams during project implementation.
• Evaluate production processes and identify opportunities to reduce waste, improve throughput, and enhance quality.
• Support installation and startup of corrugators, converting equipment, material handling systems, and plant infrastructure.
• Conduct root cause analyses and implement corrective actions to improve equipment reliability.
• Assist in preventive and predictive maintenance initiatives.
• Ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.
• Develop project documentation, technical reports, and operating procedures.

What It Takes

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Chemical Engineering.
• 2-7 years of engineering experience within manufacturing or industrial environments.
• Strong project management and organizational skills.
• Ability to analyze data and develop practical solutions.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and project management tools.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Corrugated packaging, paper manufacturing, converting, or related industry experience.
• Experience with corrugators, flexographic printing, rotary die-cutting, folding/gluing, and material handling systems.
• Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, TPM, or Kaizen experience.
• Knowledge of PLCs, controls, and industrial automation systems.
• Familiarity with CMMS and maintenance reliability programs.
