Job Title: Carpenter – Restoration and Water Mitigation ($$24-35/hr depending on experience!)

Job Description

This role offers an opportunity for an experienced carpenter to expand into water mitigation and property restoration work. You will contribute to residential and commercial projects involving repairs, reconstruction, and cleanup following water, fire, storm, and other damage events. The position combines hands-on carpentry with on-the-job training in restoration services, supporting a 24/7 emergency response operation while primarily working a daytime schedule.

Responsibilities

• Perform a wide range of carpentry tasks, including framing, finish work, drywall installation and repair, and painting on residential and commercial restoration projects.
• Assist with water damage restoration activities such as responding to flooding, leaks, storm damage, and sewage backups, following established mitigation procedures.
• Support fire and smoke cleanup, including soot removal, odor control, detailed cleaning, and board-ups to secure affected properties.
• Participate in mold remediation projects by helping with inspections, containment setup, removal activities, and restoration of affected areas.
• Contribute to biohazard and trauma cleanup, including work on bloodborne pathogen projects, following strict safety and regulatory guidelines.
• Assist with storm damage services, including cleanup after tornadoes, hail, and thunderstorms, and help restore structures and property conditions.
• Work on hoarding and clutter cleanup projects, helping to clear, organize, and restore living spaces to safe and functional conditions.
• Support odor removal efforts by performing cleaning, repairs, and other tasks needed to eliminate persistent odors from structures and contents.
• Participate in air duct cleaning projects as needed, helping to improve indoor air quality in residential and commercial properties.
• Travel from site to site to perform work at various customer locations, adapting to changing project scopes and conditions.
• Use hand and power tools safely and effectively to complete carpentry and restoration tasks according to project specifications.
• Provide and maintain your own basic hand tools needed for daily carpentry work.
• Collaborate with project teams, follow direction from supervisors, and communicate clearly about job progress and site conditions.
• Adhere to all safety standards, including OSHA guidelines, company policies, and job-specific procedures to protect yourself, coworkers, and clients.
• Participate in on-call rotations outside of the core 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. shift when needed to support emergency response projects.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 2+ years of carpentry experience, with hands-on work in residential or commercial settings.
• Proficiency in framing, including constructing and repairing structural elements and partitions.
• Experience with finish carpentry, such as trim installation, doors, and other detailed interior work.
• Ability to perform drywall work, including hanging, taping, mudding, and finishing surfaces for paint.
• Competence in painting tasks, including surface preparation and application of finishes.
• Capability to perform general labor duties on restoration job sites, including cleanup, material handling, and site preparation.
• Skilled use of hand tools and power tools, with an understanding of safe operation and basic maintenance.
• Willingness to learn water mitigation and restoration techniques through on-the-job training.
• Ability to work a standard 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. shift with flexibility for occasional on-call hours.
• Reliability in traveling to multiple job sites and working in varied conditions as projects require.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• OSHA 10 certification preferred; support is available to obtain this certification if not already held.
• Preferred carpentry experience in framing, painting, and sheet rock work.
• Comfort working in environments affected by water damage, fire and smoke, mold, biohazards, storm damage, hoarding, and odor issues.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and restoration protocols while maintaining high-quality workmanship.
• Strong attention to safety, cleanliness, and professionalism on all job sites.
• Capacity to adapt to changing priorities and respond to emergency situations when needed.
• Ownership of basic hand tools suitable for carpentry and general construction tasks.

Work Environment

This position is field-based and requires traveling from site to site throughout the area to work on residential and commercial properties. You primarily work an 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. shift, with occasional on-call hours to support emergency response needs. Projects involve a variety of conditions, including water damage restoration from flooding, leaks, storm damage, and sewage backups; fire and smoke cleanup with soot removal, odor control, cleaning, and board-ups; mold remediation with inspections, containment, and removal; biohazard and trauma cleanup related to bloodborne pathogens; storm damage services for tornado, hail, and thunderstorm cleanup; hoarding and clutter cleanup; odor removal; and air duct cleaning. You regularly use hand and power tools and are expected to provide your own basic hand tools. Work takes place both indoors and outdoors, often in damaged or distressed environments, requiring adherence to strict safety and cleanliness standards.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Shawnee, KS.

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
