Title: RN – Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

Location: Charlotte, NC
Duration: 13 Weeks
Schedule: 12-Hour Night Shift (36 Hours/Week) | 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (1900–0700) | Every Other Weekend

• Non-Trauma Facility
• Non-Teaching Hospital

Radius Rule

• Traveler's permanent residence must be greater than 50 miles from the home unit.

Unit Information

• 30-Bed Intensive Care Unit
• Average Daily Census: 26 Patients
• Minimum Experience Required: 2 Years of ICU Experience
• First-Time Travelers Accepted

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

The ICU cares for a wide range of critically ill adult patients, excluding cardiac surgery patients.

Common Diagnoses Include

• Sepsis
• Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS)
• GI Bleeds
• Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
• Cardiac Arrest
• Substance Withdrawal
• Renal Failure
• Respiratory Failure
• Multi-System Critical Care Patients

Note: Cardiac Surgical patients are not treated on this unit.

Patient RatiosRN Ratio

• 1:1 – 1:2
• Day and Night Shift

Required Certifications

• Active RN License
• BLS
• ACLS
• NIHSS

• Ventilator Management
• Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation
• Blood Product Administration
• Chest Tube Management
• Wound Care & Dressing Changes
• Hemodynamic Monitoring
• Critical Care Patient Assessment

Invasive Line Management

• Arterial Lines (ART Lines)
• Central Venous Pressure (CVP) Monitoring

Critical Care Drips

• Insulin Drips
• Vasopressors
• Sedation Infusions
• Other ICU Medication Titrations

Support Within the DepartmentNursing & Clinical Support

• Charge Nurse
• Daily Clinical Supervisor serving as a resource
• Nurse Educator
• MedSurg Clinical Nurse Specialist

Patient Care Support

• CNA Support
  • ADLs
  • Vital Signs
  • Nutrition Assistance
  • Blood Glucose Monitoring
  • Mobility Assistance

Ancillary Support

• Phlebotomy Available 24/7
• IV/Vascular Access Team Available 24/7
• Dedicated Unit Pharmacist
• 2 Case Managers Per Unit
• Respiratory Therapy Available 24/7
  • Nebulizer Treatments Performed by RT

Physician Coverage

• Hospitalist Available 24/7
• Intensivist Coverage Until Midnight
• Virtual/On-Call Critical Care Physician After Midnight

Telemetry Monitoring

• No Remote Monitoring
• Charge Nurse, Clinical Supervisor, Unit Clerk, and Staff Nurses are responsible for rhythm interpretation and posting each shift

Floating RequirementsRequired Floating

Travelers must be willing to float within:

• Scope of Practice
• Region 2 Facilities

If floating between facilities during a shift:

• Traveler remains on the clock
• Travel time between facilities is paid

Candidates unwilling to float within Region 2 should not be submitted.

• Travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays during the contract
