Architect II (NS) The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervisionof all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! A successful candidate for the Project Architect (Architect II) will provide DECM-Engineering with in-house architectural support on life-safety, ADA, energy efficiency, egress, and space planning on NCDAC's facilities physical plant for the completion of Force Account construction, renovation, and/or major maintenance projects. This position works closely with other in-house design disciplines, construction, and maintenance personnel within the Division of Engineering, Construction, and Maintenance (DECM) and with outside design and construction entities to provide services to the department in the form of plan development, specification writing, estimating, building envelope and roof evaluations, field investigations, project management, and planning, scoping, budgeting, and evaluation of other systems for new and existing facilities. Key duties include: Working knowledge of principles and practices of architecture building system planning, design, and/or construction. Working knowledge of NC Building Codes and/or International Building Codes. Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit design software. A valid license to practice Architecture in the State of North Carolina. Salary Grade Range: $67,122.00-$117,465.00 The work schedule is Monday – Friday 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM but occasionally could require work hours on Fridays. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred: Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and theories of architecture and design. Thorough knowledge of materials, construction techniques, codes and standards, soils, project management, and of the laws and ordinances pertaining to the design, construction and renovation of buildings and other facilities. The Division of Engineering, Construction, and Maintenance (DECM) coordinates all North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections (NCDAC) construction and renovation efforts, working closely with the State Construction Office to bring projects to life. We represent the department on key property and building matters while keeping facilities running smoothly through expert support for mechanical, electrical, kitchen, and other essential systems. With a dedicated team specializing in design, project management, and sustainability, DECM helps ensure our facilities stay safe, efficient, and ready to serve. This position requires a daily commute to Raleigh Area Satellite Yard in Raleigh, NC. The work schedule is Monday – Friday and may require some weekend work and overnight travel to meet the demands of the organization.
