Overview:The Vice President (VP), Environment, Health, Safety & Compliance ( EHS&C) is responsible for leading the Company's safety culture, risk management, fleet safety, environmental compliance, transportation compliance, security, and regulatory programs. This executive partners closely with Operations leadership to build a world-class safety culture, reduce risk, strengthen accountability, and improve operational performance across a geographically dispersed field organization.
Success in this role requires a balance of strategic leadership, operational influence, regulatory expertise , and the ability to drive behavioral change at every level of the organization. The VP, EHS&C ensures that safety and operational excellence are integrated, visible, and measured through daily management practices, leadership routines, employee engagement, and data driven performance management.
Responsibilities:Strategic Leadership & Risk Management
- Develop and execute enterprise-wide EHS&C strategies that reduce risk, strengthen compliance, and support business objectives.
- Establish and communicate the vision and strategy for safety, health, environmental compliance, fleet safety, DOT compliance, security, and drug-free workplace programs.
- Lead enterprise crisis management, incident response, business continuity, and organizational risk management initiatives.
- Translate safety and compliance priorities into practical operational plans that improve performance across branches and regions.
Safety Culture Transformation
- Lead the development of a proactive, accountability-based safety culture across all branches and operating regions.
- Partner with Operations leadership to make safety a visible component of daily management, leadership routines, and performance discussions.
- Drive employee engagement, coaching, recognition, hazard identification, and near-miss reporting initiatives that strengthen safety ownership at every level.
- Champion a culture where safety is integrated into operational excellence rather than treated as a stand-alone compliance function.
Fleet Safety Excellence & Transportation Compliance
- Own enterprise fleet safety strategy across all company-operated vehicles and driver populations.
- Drive reductions in preventable accidents, distracted-driving events, backing incidents, injuries, and vehicle related risk.
- Oversee telematics, video safety systems, driver coaching, corrective action governance, DOT compliance, CSA scores, audits, and inspections.
- Partner with Operations, Fleet, HR, and Legal to establish best-in-class driver performance standards, accountability practices, and recognition programs.
Safety Analytics & Performance Management
- Develop and manage enterprise safety scorecards using both leading and lagging indicators.
- Drive performance improvement through analysis of injuries, incidents, near misses, safety observations, coaching effectiveness, telematics data, audit results, and compliance trends.
- Establish predictive risk-management processes to identify emerging risks before incidents occur.
- Use data to support accountability, resource allocation, leadership decisions, and continuous improvement.
Environmental, Regulatory & Compliance Leadership
- Oversee environmental compliance programs, including permitting, regulatory reporting, pollution prevention, and environmental management systems.
- Monitor regulatory developments and ensure proactive compliance with applicable OSHA, DOT/FMCSA, EPA, and other federal, state, and local requirements.
- Serve as a primary liaison with regulatory agencies and lead audits, inspections, investigations, permitting activities, and compliance initiatives.
- Ensure consistent application of company safety, environmental, transportation, and compliance standards across all regions and business units.
Leadership Accountability & Operational Partnership
- Hold operational leaders accountable for safety performance, coaching quality, policy execution, and risk reduction.
- Collaborate with Executive, Operations, Human Resources, Fleet, Legal, and regional leadership to integrate safety into operational decision-making and business planning.
- Develop leadership capability through training, coaching, field engagement, and safety leadership development programs.
- Build alignment across field and corporate teams so safety expectations are clear, consistent, and actionable.
Change Leadership & Organizational Capability
- Lead enterprise safety initiatives and organizational change efforts across a geographically dispersed workforce.
- Influence leaders and employees at all levels to adopt new processes, behaviors, and safety expectations.
- Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing safety professionals.
- Establish succession plans and development pathways for safety leadership roles.
- Build field-level safety capability through training, coaching, mentorship, and practical tools.
Executive & Board Engagement
- Provide regular updates to executive leadership and the Board regarding safety performance, risk exposure, regulatory developments, and strategic initiatives.
- Translate complex safety, environmental, fleet, and compliance issues into actionable business recommendations.
- Manage departmental budgets, key performance indicators, vendor relationships, and strategic projects.

Strongly Preferred Experience
- Multi-site field services, transportation, industrial services, construction services, logistics, waste or environmental services, utilities, distribution, or similar operating environments.
- Experience leading safety transformations in dispersed field organizations with significant vehicle exposure.
- Experience utilizing telematics, fleet safety technologies, video safety systems, and driver performance management systems.
Additional Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Proven executive leadership experience in Environmental, Health, Safety, Fleet Safety, Transportation Compliance, Environmental Management, and Risk Management programs.
- Demonstrated ability to lead safety culture transformation and influence behavior across field-based organizations.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, DOT/FMCSA, EPA, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Ability to integrate safety and operational excellence into daily management, leadership routines, and performance expectations.
- Experience developing leading and lagging indicator scorecards and using data to drive measurable improvement.
- Proven ability to partner with Operations leadership and hold leaders accountable for safety performance, coaching quality, and policy execution.
- Experience with telematics, video safety systems, driver coaching, safety observations, corrective action, and recognition programs.
- Strong change management capability with the ability to influence leaders and employees at all levels.
- Ability to recruit, develop, and retain high-performing safety professionals and build field-level safety capability.
- Exceptional executive presence, communication, and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to present to executive leadership and the Board.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to leverage data to drive results.
- Strong financial and business acumen, including budget development, vendor management, and resource planning.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion when handling confidential information.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and EHS/compliance management systems.
- Ability to interpret and apply regulatory requirements, policies, and technical documentation.

At United Site Services, our salary ranges reflect the minimum and maximum base pay for the posted position applicable to all locations across the US. Within the posted salary range, individual pay is determined by the geographic location, job related skills, experience, education, and certifications. Our total compensation package includes base pay plus a comprehensive benefits program.
