Job Description
Take the next step in your special education teaching career in a rewarding and supportive contract role in a classroom serving exceptional high school-aged students. This opportunity is designed for an experienced Special Education Teacher who brings expertise, compassion, and collaboration to meet the unique instructional, communication, mobility, and personal care needs of students aged 14-18 with multiple disabilities.
You’ll work alongside a close-knit classroom team that includes two dedicated paraeducators, a private duty nurse, and a service dog, providing a safe, engaging, and responsive learning environment. The majority of students utilize wheelchairs and all communicate via assistive devices, making experience with lifts, transfers, and alternative communication essential.
Position Details:
- Teach and support a classroom of seven students, with active involvement in both academic instruction and daily living skills.
- Collaborate closely with paraeducators, healthcare staff, and related service providers to ensure continuity of care and personalized instruction.
- Address a range of medical and personal care needs safely and with sensitivity, including frequent use of mobility equipment.
- Implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and contribute professionally to ongoing student assessments and parent communications.
- Enjoy support for lesson planning with a dedicated hour each day and a guaranteed 30-minute duty-free lunch.
- Potential for assignment extension or transition into other roles as needs arise.
Qualifications:
- Current Maryland Special Education teaching license, with High School endorsement.
- Experience supporting students with multiple disabilities and utilizing assistive technology/communication devices.
- Strong collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Preparedness to begin as soon as possible.
If you’re passionate about making a meaningful difference and ready to work in a dynamic, team-oriented setting, we encourage you to apply today! Join a caring, expert group of professionals transforming students’ lives every day.
Compensation for this position ranges from $24.01 to $47.01. Eligible candidates may also receive healthcare benefits, housing, and meals/incidentals. Full details of our healthcare benefits plan can be found here. This posting is open for 60 days after the posting date.
