Job Description

Make a meaningful impact as a Special Education Teacher working with a close-knit group of middle school students in a supportive classroom setting. This contract role offers the opportunity to develop and implement individualized instruction for a small class of four students (ages 11-14) with autism and intellectual disabilities. Collaboration with two dedicated paraeducators ensures a team-focused approach as you address a diverse range of instructional, communication, and behavioral needs.

In this classroom, you'll employ a variety of communication supports—two students use communication devices, while the others communicate verbally with additional visual supports. The role involves supporting students with significant needs, including those who may exhibit physical aggression, spitting, disrobing, and elopement behaviors. You'll have structured time for planning (1 hour daily) and a duty-free lunch, enabling you to deliver thoughtful, engaging lessons and interventions.

Qualifications sought:

• Valid Maryland Special Education Teacher license (no conditional certificates)
• Experience teaching students with autism and intellectual disabilities, particularly ages 11-14
• Proficiency with communication devices and visual supports
• Strong understanding of behavioral intervention strategies for complex behaviors
• Ability to collaborate with paraeducators and other support staff
• Energetic, patient, and creative approach to differentiated instruction
• Excellent communication and organizational skills

Responsibilities in this role:

• Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and instructional activities
• Provide both academic teaching and behavioral interventions
• Collaborate closely with paraeducators and related service providers
• Foster a safe, predictable classroom environment
• Communicate proactively with families and team members

This contract runs from January 2, 2027, through June 18, 2027, with hours from 7:30am to 3:00pm, Monday through Friday.
