Sr. Machine Learning Engineer, Medical Imaging

Intuitive Surgical seeks a senior machine learning engineer to develop advanced algorithms for medical imaging analysis in the Ion endoluminal robotic system. The role involves designing and implementing state-of-the-art algorithms for lung structure segmentation, registration, and target localization across CT, CBCT, and X-ray modalities, with emphasis on deployment in production medical device environments.

Responsibilities

• Drive full-cycle development of medical imaging software from research concepts to commercial medical device products
• Design and prototype advanced algorithms for lung segmentation, registration, target localization, and anomaly detection
• Apply and fine-tune modern architectures including nnU-Net, Vision Transformers, DINO, Diffusion models, and Vision Language Models
• Architect model deployment pipelines with optimization techniques for real-time performance on constrained medical systems
• Support system integration, testing, and formal design documentation with patent applications

Requirements

• MS or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field
• 5+ years of hands-on industrial algorithm development experience with medical imaging and computer vision specialization
• Expert-level proficiency in Python and C++ for production software design
• Demonstrated experience with PyTorch, OpenCV, MONAI, ITK, VTK, TensorRT, or ONNX
• Knowledge of Good Machine Learning Practice (GMLP) principles and regulatory compliance
• Strong cross-functional communication skills for clinical and engineering collaboration
