Maintenance Specialist I - Nebraska State Penitentiary

The Nebraska State Penitentiary is seeking Maintenance Specialists to perform daily and routine maintenance throughout our facility. Additional $3.00/hour facility differential for hours worked. Job stability and excellent benefits are provided. Responsibilities Maintain the physical plant with repairs and preventive maintenance. Perform skilled carpentry work in major renovation and construction of buildings, structures; construct, alter, maintain, and repair buildings, floors, roofs, stairways, partitions, walls, ceilings, doors, windows, screens, furniture, and cabinets. Schedule and perform specialized preventive maintenance and repairs for equipment, systems, and machinery to ensure necessary inspection, adjustment, and replacement of parts. Supervise inmates working in the maintenance department. Maintain accurate inventory of all stock and commonly used maintenance parts. Maintain accurate tool logs and an extensive array of tools, following all policies and procedures related to tool control and purchasing of tools, equipment, and parts. Handle maintenance‑related purchases and statement reconciliation. Qualifications Associate’s degree or equivalent vocational education in construction, industrial engineering, HVAC, welding, or another building trade. Experience in building maintenance, a mechanical trade, or performing safety inspections, investigations, or training may be substituted for education on a year‑for‑year basis as determined appropriate by the agency. Applicants must pass a medical exam and a drug test, followed by completion of the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.
