Corps & Youth Program Assistant

This position is responsible for assisting in the planning, preparing and developing of all TSA youth related programs, i.e. Sunday school, after school programs, YPL, camps and troops. As well as, assisting with various duties as assigned by the Corps Officer, for programs within Hawaii County.

Although this position does not require or confer ordination, this is a "ministry position." Only Christians with a demonstrated strong personal faith and agreement with the teaching of Holy Scripture as explained in The Salvation Army "Articles of War" and the "Handbook of Doctrine" will be considered for this position.

Essential qualifications include retaining a valid Driver's license, being computer proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher, and being able to communicate via email. Must learn, be aware of, implement and observe all "Protecting the Mission" policies. Must be motivated and a self-starter. Must be a team player and dependable. Must have a valid High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Ability to work and conduct business in a professional manner.

Preferred qualifications include being a uniform-wearing Salvationist with a good Christian witness, two or more years of experience in Salvation Army programs, and possessing a thorough working knowledge of, and giving competent instruction in, Salvation Army doctrine.

Essential functions include assisting with preparation of curriculum for & leading or assisting with Troops, Singing Company, Bible Bowl Team, Junior Soldiers, Corps Cadets, & Sunday School. Assisting with homework labs, assisting retired teachers and/or volunteers. Assisting in planning youth events that help expand the youth ministry and invite the community. Assisting with supervision of Divisional Youth Rally and Divisional Music Camp weekends. Assisting in planning and assisting in the supervision of youth fundraising for youth camps, trips, and YPL. Assisting important family/school events as appropriate for youth group participants. Assisting and helping develop contests/incentives etc. to increase youth programs. Making home visits to families where kids attend, and other household members don't. The goal here is to include/invite the rest of the family to the child's church activities. Assisting in developing to expand volunteerism in all aspects of the youth department. Attending youth camps as necessary (on Oahu at Camp Homelani). Assisting Corps Officers in the Back-to-School campaign, Christmas Kettle campaign and the Angel Tree Program. Assisting and maintaining statistical data. Other duties as assigned.

Mental demands include working under stressful conditions, interacting with others with courtesy and tact, managing and prioritizing multiple projects in an organized and efficient manner to meet tight deadlines, responding to crisis situations in a calm and effective manner, and completing projects on schedule.

Physical demands include sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and or crawling; standing; walking manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; driving a vehicle; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 25-50 pounds and occasionally more than 50 pounds; traveling by airplane.

Communication demands include talking to co-workers, clients, vendors; requires written communication to and from co-workers, client, vendors; talking on the telephones; requires responding to written or verbal request of co-workers, clients, and vendors; requires training/giving verbal and written instructions; requires receiving verbal and written instructions; requires writing/composing written language; requires reading; requires visiting/working at other worksites; requires communication via the latest technologies.

Equipment needs include use of office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, scanners, printers, calculators, phone, cell phone, vehicles etc.
