Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Registered Nurse (RN)

We are seeking an experienced Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Registered Nurse (RN) to join a dedicated healthcare team. This role involves caring for critically ill pediatric patients and requires a compassionate and skilled nursing professional.

Shift Information

Shift Type: Nights
Shift Length: 12 hours
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Holidays: 2 out of 3 holidays

Unit Overview

Unit: PICU
Number of Beds: 8 with an average census of 2
Patient to Nurse Ratio: 1 to 2
EMR System: Cerner
Television Monitoring: Spacelab tele monitors; nurses must be able to interpret their own strips
Ventilator Support: Yes
Pediatric Hospitalist Intensivist: In-house 24/7
Respiratory Therapy: Available 24/7
Pharmacy Services: Available 24/7
Nurse Aides: None

Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill pediatric patients.
Administer medications and manage intravenous (IV) therapy, including titratable drips such as insulin and sedative agents.
Monitor patient vitals and response to treatments using advanced monitoring systems.
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes.
Float to general pediatrics and burn units for non-burn care of pediatric patients.

Qualifications

Minimum of 2 years of PICU experience required.
BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification required.
PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) Certification required.
Familiarity with using Medfusion pumps for medication administration.
Ability to provide care for a range of diagnoses including respiratory failure, diabetic ketoacidosis, and other critical conditions.

Orientation

Orientation includes 2 shifts in PICU, 1 shift in pediatrics, and 1 shift in the burn unit (for pediatric non-burn care).
