Critical Care Registered Nurse

Critical care registered nurses provide care for patients with severe medical issues. They assess patient conditions and plan and implement patient care plans. They treat wounds and provide advanced life support. They assist physicians in performing procedures. They observe and record patient vital signs. They ensure that medical equipment functions properly and may adjust ventilators. They administer intravenous fluids and medications. They perform suctioning as needed. They collaborate with other members of the critical care team. They respond to life-saving situations using nursing standards and protocols for treatment. They act as patient advocates. They provide education and support to patient families. Critical care nurses may also care for pre- and post-operative patients. Some serve as case managers and policy makers, while others perform administrative duties.
