Job Title : Animal Technician
Work Location : 1040 Swabia Ct , Durham NC USA 27703
Contract : 12 months
Shift : 1st Shift, 07:00 AM – 3:00PM (Mon- Fri) with rotational week-offs
Pay Rate : $21.31/ hr on W2
Key Responsibilities
- Daily animal husbandry, feeding, watering, enrichment, and cage/room cleaning
- Monitor animal health and welfare; report concerns
- Perform euthanasia according to training and AVMA guidelines
- Maintain vivarium cleanliness, sanitation, equipment, and inventory
- Handle animals according to SOPs and research protocols
- Maintain accurate records and follow safety/PPE requirements
- Support IACUC inspections and AAALAC accreditation standards
- Work independently while maintaining good teamwork and communication
Physical/Work Requirements
- Lift up to 50 lbs
- Stand for extended periods; bend, squat, stoop, twist, and use ladders
- Exposure to animal dander, dust, aerosols, odors, noise, and temperatures from freezing to ~90°ree;F
- Strict biocontainment procedures, including possible multiple showers per day
- PPE such as Tyvek, hairnet, gloves, safety glasses, and respirator/PAPR may be required
- No poultry or swine ownership
- No personal phones or jewelry inside the vivarium
