Registered Nurse Labor and Delivery

The Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery provides specialized nursing care for high-risk and high-volume obstetric patients, including first-time mothers and midwifery clients. This role involves managing patient care during labor, delivery, and postpartum, as well as newborn care until transfer to postpartum units. The nurse collaborates with interdisciplinary teams in a fast-paced, high acuity environment, ensuring adherence to clinical guidelines and electronic fetal monitoring protocols. Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to laboring and delivering patients, including high-risk cases.
• Serve as the Baby Nurse during delivery, providing immediate newborn care such as eye treatments, vitamin K injections, and assessments.
• Float to postpartum, antepartum, and sister facilities as needed to support mother/baby units.
• Utilize electronic fetal monitoring and adhere to EPIC hardstop protocols.
• Collaborate with midwives, private OBs, and community care clinics in patient management.
• Support adult recovery services for patients with substance recovery needs.
• Maintain compliance with AWHONN guidelines for staffing and patient care.
• Manage multiple deliveries and patient care in a unit with approximately 31 beds and 4 operating rooms.
• Document nursing care and patient status accurately and timely.

• Active Registered Nurse license with eligibility for compact licensing.
• Minimum 1 year of labor and delivery nursing experience with high-risk patient care.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification.
• Proficiency in electronic fetal monitoring and EPIC electronic medical record system.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills in a fast-paced environment.

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.
• AWHONN Advanced and Intermediate certifications.

• Work every other weekend and holidays as needed.
• Float assignments include postpartum, antepartum, and sister facilities.
• High acuity, high volume labor and delivery setting with approximately 500-600 deliveries per month.
• Adherence to strict EPIC hardstop protocols for newborn care and circulator role; candidates not meeting these criteria will not be screened.
• Pre-approved time off is considered on a case-by-case basis.

• Schedule is posted every 6 weeks and designed to meet unit needs.
• Shift patterns include day and potentially night shifts in a 31-bed unit with 4 operating rooms.
