They supervise and provide care to these patients utilizing the nursing process, including the therapeutic use of self./ppKey Responsibilities/pulliFollows established policies and procedures./liliCommunicates openly with internal customers and supervisors./liliProvides excellent customer service, interfacing well with all levels of staff, management, and physicians./liliApplies Coopers core values./liliPerforms other duties as required./li/ulpOverview/ppThe Trauma/Surgical ICU (TSICU) is a 28-bed critical care unit specializing in caring for traumatically injured patients or those undergoing complex surgeries requiring close monitoring and care. Patients are admitted directly from the ED, the Ross Trauma Admitting Area, or the operating room. Patients usually cared for in this area include those with traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, rib fractures, and lung injuries, as well as diverse orthopedic injuries requiring frequent monitoring and care. Many patients cared for in the TSICU are poly-trauma patients, with injuries involving more than one body system. Common surgical patients include those undergoing Whipple procedures, esophagectomies, gastrostomies, and abdominal aortic aneurysms. The unit is staffed with registered nurses, critical care technicians, trauma surgery nurse practitioners, resident physicians, and attending trauma surgeons. Staff also work closely with respiratory therapists and specialized surgical groups such as orthopedics and neurosurgery.
