Special Education Paraprofessional- Harrison Canon City School District Fremont Re-1

Start Date: August 6th for the 2026-2027 School Year Position Type: Full-time, 163 days per year Location: Harrison K-8 School Salary: Pay for this position is determined by the Instructional Support Salary Schedule based on years of experience and education, $17.51-18.56 per hour/minimum pay. Additional $50.00 a day if assigned as a certified substitute teacher. Purpose of the Job Operates under general guidelines provided by a supervising teacher under the direction of the site administrator(s) and provides instructional, supervisory general, and/or special educational assistance to students and teachers. For special education, implements specialized programming and/or instructional support both in and outside of the general education classroom, supervised by the special education teacher for the purpose of student growth. Education & Experience Must have a High School diploma or equivalency. Proficiency on a district-administered assessment or possession of an AA preference degree, or the equivalency of two years of undergraduate college classes may be required, unless working in Title I. If working in Title 1, these qualifications are required. Experience: Effective communication and social skills. Licenses & Certificates Valid Colorado Driver's License, CDE Substitute License when necessary. Other Criteria Criminal background check required for hire. Ability to work cooperatively in a school atmosphere with staff members, students, and the public. Ability to effectively read, write, speak, and listen to comply with directions and instructions to complete tasks and establish priorities. Integrity, trust, and work ethic to work with little supervision. Competent understanding of technology to perform the job. Must pass pre-employment physical. Ability to perform light lifting and moving of product (up to 50 lbs). Physical strength and coordination to meet the educational, physical, and emotional needs of students assigned. Implements appropriate physical and technical safeguards to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of district data. Maintain good security practices with passwords and accounts for the district systems and applications. Reports actual or suspected breaches in the confidentiality, integrity, or availability of district data to appropriate district personnel. Follows all board policies for acceptable use of district technology. Model the District's Mission and Belief Statements. Essential Duties of the Job Demonstrate reliability in all work situations. Under the direction of the supervising teacher, implement schedules and routines, communicate with parents, work 1-to-1, in small groups or full classroom settings, with students, support school-wide and classroom management plans. Meet the educational, physical, and emotional needs of students assigned. Must be Mandt trained or be willing to be trained as necessitated by the District. May include inside or outside supervision of students, at times during inclement weather. May be required to obtain a substitute license to support in subbing for certified teachers when needed. May be required to transport students in district vehicles. Other duties as assigned. Additional Special Education Duties Maintain confidentiality with special education student information. Carries out instructional programs and lessons in various learning environments as directed by the teacher and/or special education teacher per the student(s)' Individual Education Plan (IEP). Work with students in a one-on-one or small group environment to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher and/or special education teacher. May be required to maneuver and secure wheelchairs while using appropriate procedures to transfer/lift students to and from wheelchairs. May be required to assist student(s) with medical tasks such as tube feeding, catheterization, toileting, diapering, and suctioning, and may involve exposure to bodily fluids. May be required to perform tasks for student(s) such as meal preparation, feeding, and lunch clean-up, which involves implementing communication, oral motor, sensory integration, and physical IEP goals. Other duties as assigned. Additional Duties for Preschool Paraprofessionals Must attend all preschool-required training. Other duties as assigned. Skills, Knowledge, Equipment & Other Variety of standard office equipment and other specialized equipment based on individual student’s accommodations and modifications. Supervisory Responsibilities: N/A Requirements for Essential Functions of the Job Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, talk, or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, feel, or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds from floor to waist, waist to overhead, waist to floor, and overhead to floor. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work in a school setting. Travel from site to site may occasionally expose the employee to wet and/or humid outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment ranges from generally quiet to increased when working events or with equipment occasionally. Classroom and 1-to-1 settings and possible outside supervisory duties in inclement weather. Must be able to work in person. Mental Functions While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to analyze and compute.
